Lifting heavy things

Friday, January 29, 2010

As part of a fun item on my Paleo team I'm posting a picture of me lifting something heavy. I was in hopes of finding some concrete junks to drag around for this photo, but that didn't work out. So I headed to the gym and found something to try. Good thing I think, as I look at these photos, I am concerned about my form! Not surprising. I'm not even sure what this move is called, a jerk, a clean, a power clean, and clean and jerk. Je n'ai sais pas.

Anyway, here I am trying to lift 65 lbs with my relatively weak upper body. One of the reasons I haven't been to crossfit in so long is right here: because I can't find a trainer (YET) who makes sure I've gotten aces form. Turns out my hubby did this type of lifting in high school on the football team. Maybe he can guide me straight.

Sorry spark made these pictures so small

You are not relatively weak if you're moving 65lbs over your head. I've been CrossFitting since November (but really got into it in 2010) and I can *barely* clean/push press, etc. an Olympic barbell (45lbs).

What's funny is that I can back squat almost 100lbs and deadlift 158lbs. Talk about weak upper body.

    You're awesome!

I just had to look at your blog when I saw the title. Whenever I'm heading to the gym in the middle of the day I tell my coworker that I'm going to "lift heavy things."

Definitely be careful with those advanced moves. Cleans and Jerks are easy to hurt yourself with if you don't have good form. Way to go stepping outside of your comfort zone and trying some new things. They're really going to pay off in the end.
