What I want to be

My weight loss and exercise journey has been full of ups and downs. Everytime I've tried to achieve weight loss and physical fitness, I've done well, then fallen back into bad habits. Last year, I lost 25 pounds during a weight loss contest at work. It took me 2 months to lose the weight and 3 months to put it back on. I've always lost weight for the wrong reasons. I think that's why I haven't been able to keep it off. I was shown Sparkpeople by my wife, who has had a very positive experience with it. I want to use the tools and resources that Sparkpeople has because I believe that it can help me. I'm going to start out by establishing my goals.

For my long term goals, I will be under 200 pounds for the first time since I was a kid. I've been overweight as long as I can remember. I hope that getting to a weight that isn't considered obese will help me to have a happier and productive life. I will be more active so I can do more with my wife and have greater enjoyment in life. I hope to do all of this before the end of 2010.

For my mid-term goals, my wife and I are purchasing our first home. We should close in the next 60 days. I will lose enough weight between now and then to be able to wear the jeans I wore on my birthday 2 years ago. They are a size 36 waist and are currently hanging on my closet door as a reminder of why I want to lose weight. I figure that I will need to lose about 20 pounds to make this happen. I believe that I will need to get into a consistent habit of exercising at least 4 times a week to make this happen as well as eating healthy and getting the right amount of sleep. My time line for accomplishing these goals is March 30th.

My short term goals for the week include drinking 8 8 oz glasses of water every day, using 1 piece of workout equipment a day, and listening to a motivational song once a day. I also hope to join some teams on Sparkpeople and make some friends. I want to accomplish all of this during the next week.
