Wii Fit and other happiness!

For Christmas, my fiancé bought me three Wii games: Wii Fit Plus, Gold's Gym Cardio Workout, and The Biggest Loser. He knew I wasn't sure which one I wanted, so he bought them all to let me try them.

So far, I have been LOVING the Gold's Gym game. It's basically a boxing game. I used to love going to my kickboxing class at the gym, but after my instructor left they replaced her with a personal trainer--not a kickboxing instructor!! She didn't know what she was doing, so after one class of nothing but jabs, jumping jacks, and fast feet (where are the kicks and other punches, and how about some combos??) I decided that the gym, that was always too crowded and had the same machines as my apartment complex gym, no longer had anything to offer me.

I didn't work out for over a month, until I got the Gold's Gym game. Okay, I admit it. I miss kicking. But, this workout still incorporates the lower body by ducking, bobbing and weaving, and shifting your weight between your legs while waiting for punches. And let me tell you, that dodging stuff makes my body HURT the following few days. But, I'm getting a good workout, probably equivalent to what I was getting in class. And I'm quitting the gym which will save me money. The game is great about motivating me to come back every day, because:

*I have a punch count which keeps racking up--the more punches, the more you can unlock, like instructors and new exercises
*Punch stamps on the days I work out
*Workouts earn gold that you spend in the shop buying your avatar cute new workout clothes and boxing gloves
*The workout is customizable, so I never have to do the same workout twice
*It's interactive, which makes all of my millions of workout DVDs pretty much obsolete!

So you know I love the Gold's Gym game. Moving on to Wii Fit's fun. Really, it's really really fun! It's not the same workout I get with Gold's Gym, but it's great on those days that I'm too sore to box but still want to get a workout in. The Wii Fit Plus has workouts in the following areas: balance, strength, cardio, and yoga. Since I have Gold's Gym for cardio, and I'd rather not do yoga on the Wii balance board, I mostly use this game to have fun with the balance games which really work your core. Like, snowboarding, for example. There is also a game called Super Hula Hoop, where you are physically moving your hips as if you were hula hooping, and then lean left or right to catch hula hoops that are thrown at you. Your spins are your score, and each time I try to beat my last score. This game is also great to play with family and friends, because my competitiveness motivate me to work out!

I haven't even played The Biggest Loser yet because I've been having so much fun with the other two!

So here's the best news. I lost 3.5lbs in 3 days! The first time I stepped on the Wii balance board, my BMI said obese. Now, just that little loss of pounds put me back into the overweight category. It was so great seeing that on the screen. I felt like I had really accomplished something. I am no longer obese. I'm really happy to say that!
