Calling all runners...SOS!!

For the last 2 days I have been running in place every morning to my Wii fit free run. I run at a steady pace, not too fast or too slow, but just right for me. I have no knee discomfort whatsoever. But the minute I go outside and try to run...within minutes my knees are killing me and I have to take it down to a walk. I have tried doing intervals of walking/runnig...but after the first time running my knees hurt much too bad to continue with any more running. I love how I feel after running these last 2 days. It really keeps me motivated the rest of the day. The 870 calorie burn helps too. I think I would be able to lose weight easier if I could just run outside where there is different scenery all around me...not my four walls. I always start out a fast walk, warming my legs up before I start running, but still end up with horrible knee pain. Why don't I have any pain when I am running in place? I know we run differently when we run outdoors or on a treadmill as compared to running in place. But could it make that much of a difference on my knees? Are there any runners out there that can help me? emoticon

If you're open to it, try popping a few Ibuprofen about an hour before you go out. It's possible something is inflamed and the concrete just magnifies it...

I am sorta a runner. A new one. I think the difference is in the "pavement" option - padded floor to hard concrete outdoors. It can be really hard on the knees. It said that within minutes you are in pain, does that mean that you are literally running minutes or is it even less than that?

When I first started I would run a minute than walk a minute. I hope that this might help.

thats a good question, I do the wii fit free run also, My knees dont hurt either, maybe its different because like when you run outside, your running up and down hills, and since your moving more when you run outside then running in place it puts a little more strain on the knees?

Im sorry I am not a runner lol just suggesting maybe those are reasons.
Btw how long do you do the wii fit free run? I never burn 870 calories when I do it! lol
