The last 3yrs I have been working out with a personal trainer and he has taught me so much not just about working out with weights, kettlebells and cardio but also he taught me about food and how it all interacts with my workout. What he taught me I will have for the rest of my life and he has been so instrumental in my weight loss I am truly thankful to him. As my weight has been coming off I was noticing that I am ready to go to the next level in my workouts. What I could not do last year I can now do. Im actually surprising myself my flexiblity, my strength, and my endurance has greatly improved.
Four weeks ago my sessions with my trainer were coming to an end and I had a decision to make. He told me that they are putting in a new gym closer to his home and that he will be transfering over to the new gym. He said that I can follow him over to the new gym if I wanted to. I decided not to because it was a little too far for me and also I felt I was ready for a change. I never expected to be with him as long as I was but what we were doing was working for me and I enjoyed the workout. So as I let my trainer go I decided to take the winter off and train on my own. After 3 weeks of training myself I managed to keep the intensity up I even pushed myself harder but I really missed having a trainer.
I started to look around for a gym that would give me everything I needed. I really wanted to change things up and I wanted to find a gym with a pool so I could start swimming, I love to box so I wanted to find a gym that offered boxing classes and I wanted to find a trainer who would take me to the next level in my training. So I prayed about it and asked the Lord to help me find what I was looking for at a price I could afford. He not only help me find the gym I was looking for with everything I wanted but also it is alot cheaper than what I was paying at the other gym. Jesus is so incredible he does give you what you ask him for.
I talked with the sales person she gave me a tour of the gym it has an indoor/outdoor pool, whirlpool, sauna, steamroom, track and the latest in exercise equipment and machines and of course a section for boxing with all different kinds of heavy bags, speed bags etc. Then we discussed a personal trainer which I met that same day. His name is Matt and he is a body builder which when I saw him I tried not to let my eyes pop out of my head. I mean this guy has muscles on top of muscles and on top of that he is gorgeous I immediately started to pray "Oh Lord help me" talk about a distraction lol. Anyway we discussed what I was doing with my last trainer what my goals were and how much more weight I was looking to lose. The first thing he told me was that we were not going to do the same workout twice which got my attention and then he said he was going to train me hard, harder than my last trainer which really got my attention.
Last Wednesday was my first session with him and he was not kidding. I thought I worked hard with my last trainer but this guy has taken my workout up 5 notches which is what I wanted. We got on the machines so he can see how much weight I could handle and what my endurance was like. Needless to say after that first workout I was completely exhausted but I had a huge smile on my face. I said to myself this is it!! This is what I have been looking for. The next day I was so sore but it felt so good I worked muscles I didnt even know I had. Thank God I had a day off to rest before I saw him again.
Friday comes and the first question he asks me was if I was sore and I said yes and he said AWESOME!! He takes me over to the boxing part of the gym (which thrilled me) and he put the gloves on me and I started hitting the heavy bag. He would call out the different punch combinations at a faily fast pace and just as fast as he would call them out I had to keep up with him I really surprised myself that I could keep up with him and I think he was too. After that he put 8lb dumbbells in my hands and said ok lets do it over again with the weights. My arms were on fire and doing the punch combinations with the weights in my hands is alot harder than hitting the heavy bag.
From there he had me get down into a plank position and then go up into a pushup position back to a plank and back up to a pushup position I did this until I couldnt go anymore. Then came ab work with an 18lb medicine ball. He stands on my feet and gives me the medicine ball as I come up I have to hand him back the medicine ball he gives it back to me I go back down and come back up with the medicine ball. I did about 20reps and I started to struggle after 12 reps I just barely made the 20 reps now my abs are on fire from there we went into a kettlebell workout with 18lb weight and 20reps each side, then he decides we are going to shuffle at a fast pace from side to side in a squat position with the 18lb medicine ball and throw it back and forth to each other then right back to hitting the heavy bag to start this workout all over again.
Have you ever heard that saying "Be careful what you ask for" well I wanted a change and boy did I get it. After that workout I felt like I had been in a 12 round fight.
But I have the biggest smile on my face because God is so faithful and he makes me so happy because I know he hears me when I pray and not only that he answers my prayers beyond what I asked him for. I have training tonight and I cant wait to get there and I will be praising the Lord all the way there.
