Is that really me in the picture?

Saturday, January 16, 2010

SparkPeople suggests putting up motivational pictures. I keep thinking I should do that but never have. Well...

For Christmas my sister-in-law gave us a calendar. It's really neat. It has pictures of family members for all of our important dates. Well, the picture of me on my birthday is really horrible (and it is NOT going to appear on my page). Granted, I have never been very photogenic and the angle of the camera makes me look much bigger than I am. But I look like Jabba Hut! And that's the photo the family is seeing. I don't want all of the photos my nieces and nephews will look at to be like that. I'm tired of looking so awful in photos. I've got to get serious.

I know what you mean. To have that picture on calendar for a year is hard to look at. But just think, next year the picture will be of a new you.

I hate pix too and am sucking up the courage to post my pix on my SparkPage for the first time ever.

No S Diet is working for me (it's not really a diet). There is a SparkTeam icon for it on my SparkPage. It stops the insanity, and is so simple.

I hear ya! My sister-in-law tried to be thoughtful and put together a "family" themed picture frame. Of course, the pictures of me would make great "before" pictures. yikes.... emoticon

I was just thinking, wouldn’t it be cool to have a calendar of yourself at goal in 12 different outfits. Seems kind of narcistic but after all the hard work of getting there it would keep you motivated to stay there.

I really hate pictures also. They always make me look three times bigger then I am. I'm sad to say I ruined my son's wedding photos. We had a family picture taken and every pose there I was with my big body and bigger stomach. So revolting...that's why I'm going to get rid of the weight.

I can sure relate! Ever since Beth said that she had posted a "before" photo of herself because that's what chapter 6 in "The Spark" said to do, I've been thinking "I need to post a current photo. I need an official 'before' photo." But since I'm almost as afraid of posting a photo as I am of stepping on the scale, I just stopped reading the book after chapter 5. (And to think that my husband questions my reasoning!) emoticon
Maybe we need to make a pact - I'll post a photo if you will. Why don't you take a new one since you don't like the one on the calendar? And BTW, for not being very photogenic, you look very pretty in that photo with your hubby.

I know what you mean that's what I thought when my Mom gave me the picture that I have now on my photos on my Spark Page as my before photo. It was hard to do, but it also serves as a great motivator to me to remind me that I don't want to keep looking like that in the next year's calendar she puts out so I have got to do something about it now. (I actually had fooled myself into thinking I looked pretty good and that black was slimming-lol). Anyway just remember that the picture only captures this moment in time, but it sure can be a motivator for the future!

several years ago when i went to weight watchers, we were told that if we wanted to see how we really look, take a picture. that tha camera dosen't lie and that is really how you look. she said when we look at ouselves in the mirror we distort the image we have of ourselves. that is why all weightloss programs tell you to be sure and take a before picture (and to have a comparison for while you're losing) we all hate our before pictures, but they do show us how far we have come. now with the digital camera i take a picture of myself all the time. it can be a great motivator, because these cameras show you exactly what you look like. if you've had too much salt and have puffy eyes etc, etc.. the only way a photo dosen't show you the real you is when a person wants to lie to themselves and others and uses a software program to enhance the photo. and that is sad for them.
just keep taking new photos of yourself as you lose, you'll be glad you did.

Your a pretty lady- put your photo up with pride.. The healing process to loss weight can only happen when we accept, love and take ourselfs where we found ourselfs..

I hear you. I HATE having photos made. I, too, want to look better and better in family photos. That's a good goal; thanks for suggesting it.

Maybe another goal might be to have a photo made professionally once per year. I think I'll ponder that--it would be motivating!

There is sometimes no better motivational tool than pictures. I'm glad you looked at it and said "I need to change". Keep strong, live well, and stay positive! I know you can do it, and the next calendar will have you looking fit, and sexy! lol
