God knows what we need when we need it.

Yesterday I was looking at some pictures of myself and became very unhappy about the way I look right now. Since losing 100 lb. I have gained back 30-35 lb. and it shows. I became very discontent with who I am. Then, I even looked at some of my thinnest pictures and thought that wasn't even good enough. So, although I'm working on losing the weight and doing P90X to become more fit and in shape I became very dissatisfied with myself.

Part of my new program is to become more fit spiritually and I'm working on spending more time with God in reading and in prayer. It's somewhat of a halfhearted effort and I still feel like I'm squeeing God into my schedule. But, I have to start somewhere. With that all said I want to share just how much God cares about us. I picked up one of two daily devotion books I read and today's devotion from Daily Steps for God Chicks just blew me away. This is just part of it but it is a quote from the book.
"There is only one you. You are an absolute...one of a kind...unique creation of God Himself. No one else can do what He has called you to do. I wonder if we aren't slapping Him in the face when we desire to be anyone other than ourselves. You are giving your best when you are being YOU-not what you THINK people want you to be-but who you really ARE. You have got to get good at looking in the mirror and liking the girl you see. You are wonderfully made...never forget that! When God made you, he threw out the mold. He does not make mistakes. You are one of a kind, precious and priceless. Your worth is beyond compare. So head on over to the mirror right now, look at your wonderfully unique face, and say wow...thank You God, for making me just the way You did!! And if you are really feeling brave (or even if you're not) give yourself a little whistle...go ahead."

When I read this, tears came to my eyes and I was so grateful that God cares enough about me and how I feel that He used this book to tell me just what I needed to hear. This is just another example to me of how when I open the door for God to speak to me, HE DOES.

Cheering for you on the working in Bible time and prayer! The discipline is so valuable, and day by day it does transform us. I appreciate your passing on the paragraph about getting "good at looking in the mirror and liking the girl you see."

Thank you for sharing your blog. We all do this to ourselves. I'm really bad at this and alwasy look at my flaws. It's something I'm trying to overcome and I do not want it passed on to my beautiful daughters.

That is awesome! I, too, have made the commitment to become spiritually fit as well as physically fit this year. So, during the week I get up early, walk on my treadmill, do some toning exercises (2-3x/w) then shower and get ready for work. Then, before I check email or facebook or anything else, I do my devotional (I use the Upper Room), my daily Bible reading, and pray. It has been amazing to me how God has spoken to me through these times. He has put certain scriptures in my heart to reflect on and commit to my heart. "My ways are higher than yours" Isaiah 55:9, "Be strong and courageous" Joshua 1:9, "the Lord says, "See, I am doing a new thing" Isaiah 43:19. I'm not sure exactly what God has in mind for me this year, but I am trying to be more open to His word and His will and so far it has blessed me beyond compare. Good luck and God Bless
