1.5 weeks to half marathon

So it has been a while since I wrote a blog on my training. Sat was my last long run (Or so I thought) before my half marathon. I think my training plan had me running 12 miles. However, I have not been following my training plan too closely. I still stuck to one long run a week and did several shorter runs including tempo runs. So Sat I decided I was going to run 13 miles. I started out feeling great and was great up until mile 10. Then I started feeling a little sore. So I walked a little and ran a little. My running pace slowed and in total I ended up walking about a half mile out of the last 3 miles. I has run 12 miles before and I think my problems came from taking a week off over new years when I went to see my brother. This was my first long run after taking a week off and I think I should have built up a little more. After finishing the 13 mile run in 2 hours 25 min - a lot longer than I expected - I walked for about 20 min. Then I stretched and used the foam roller. I felt great after that.
I did a 5 mile tempo run on Monday evening. I learned that day from a podcast and from experience that another reason for the tempo run is to train your body that you can still run after pushing it to its limits. The last mile which was the cooldown mile was really hard but it felt really good when I was done.
I am getting excited for my half marathon on the 23rd. I know I will finish which was my goal.
