Do These Pants Make Me Look Fat?

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

I used to think that question was the definition of a shallow, vain person. Of course, for years it wasn't a question I could ask. No pants could make me look fat. I was fat. But now as I try to learn to dress this new body I find it can be difficult. Sometimes I look like a little dried up old lady and sometimes I look like I'm trying too hard to be young. And sometimes some pants make me look fat!

I laughed with recognition when I read your blog. How true. Now, when I grumble: "I look a little chunky in these size six jeans", I shake my head at myself and remember how I felt in 16s. It's a new world out there, and let's meet it head-on. Do we look fat in these pants? Heck no.

I think I remember what you mean (LOL) -- the last time I got thin I remember being a lot more preoccupied with how fat clothes made me look -- and some of them are unflattering. Everybody has a style that suits them and I think it has more to do with body shape than age (except for some of the more outrageous fashions). You sound like a woman with a lot of good sense -- look how far you've gone on SP -- I bet you can trust your own good judgment.

Sometimes it's hard to re-adjust when you've been dressing on a particular way for a long time. Suddenly you have choices and there are so many of them! Isn't that lovely? Now you have the body that you've wished for, for so long. It's so exciting! You've got to be proud of yourself and I know I'm proud of you for your success! emoticon

I had to answer this blog before I lost sight of it in my friends feed!

Nope, those pants make you look wonderful!

Ok, all kidding aside - pants that are too large can make a body look fat! I still cannot believe that one of my current problems is "nothing fits!" My skinny sister laughs at me when I apologize and return clothes to her because now they are too baggy!!

    Isn't life grand?!

I don't know your age but I am 58 and was given most of my 'new' clothing by the teen down the street - they are her "fat clothes" as she only weighs 98 lbs. This is the first time in my lifetime that I am able to wear hand-me-downs! I call these hand-me-ups because they are too big for Sarah. I now tell everyone they are my "Sarah Jeans" and I wear them with pride! They are a badge to my achievement!

Quit worrying if you are too old for your clothing - if they fit and are comfortable, wear them with pride. If you are not comfortable in them, move them along to your local thrift store and start searching for more clothes.

My DH is 88 and I value his opinion. There have only been a few items that he said no to so I trust him to be honest with me. BTW, the clothing he didn't like were mostly tops with too many ruffles, lol - he loves all the hip-huggers but some I just wasn't comfortable in so I moved them along.

I am just so proud of you for your success! You are a "Thinspiration" to the rest of us!

    Love you,
    Linda
