Ran 5 minutes straight!

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

To many this may not seem like a large achievement.

I have never been a runner.

I remember when I was in highschool and used to take dance class 3-4 nights a week I still couldn't run and would do awful in fitness tests in gym class.

Today I did week 4 of the Couch to 5k and ran 5 minutes straight twice!

This has proved to me that I can become a runner.

I'm going to keep at this program. I'm looking forward to trying to run outside in the spring. I know it's likely a lot harder than on my treadmill but I think it will be more inspiring that staring at my wall lol

On the nutrition side I haven't been doing that great. There are still lingering christmas goodies in my house and I can't seem to control myself.

I'm going to Vegas for the weekend for a friends 30th birthday which I know will be full of temptation. I'm going to try and be reasonably good but still have fun and then get back on track next week.

Also wish me luck. I find out about a job I interviewed for last week tomorrow and have another interview for another place on friday. I love the people I work with right now but the hours are insane and I would love to be able to get out of public accounting and focus on one industry.

You may find running outside is actually easier than treadmill running. At least, that's the case for me.

I know they say you exert yourself more when you run outside vs. treadmill. But, for me, running on the treadmill is sheer torture! I'm constantly checking the time, calories burned, how much time left, etc. When I'm outside and running, I find I can go for longer and often moderate my pace more. (speed it up if a really good song comes on my ipod!)

Happy running, and be proud of your accomplishment!

When you go to Vegas, there are also alot of buffets with tons of fruits and vegetables....sounds like you are doing good on this lifestyle change. Good Luck!

That's awesome!!! Hey, milestones are milestones! Feel proud about your accomplishments- you will be hitting the pavement before you know it! And I hear you about the treadmill; I find running outside to be so much more enlightening- you are actually moving through space, seeing different things and watching the distance add up as you run through. Keep at it, you are doing a GREAT JOB!!

Thank you for posting this!! I have the same deal! I'm pretty fit but I can not run and I too am doing C25K. But I'm on week 1 right now and couldn't get a treadmill tonight at the Y. I did the sprint/rest schedule on the bike just to work on my wind.

It is so great that you ran for 5 minutes straight!! wooo hooo I totally understand how hard that may have been! Keep up the good work and keep us posted :)
