okay..never did goals before..

I have been noticing lately all the goals people are setting for themselves. Maybe it's the new year, I don't know, but there are many many lists floating around out there. For some reason I have always thought naaa...I don't need to set any other goals than the big final end result goal of 20 lbs. Okay...I've been doing that for 2 years, and here I am...still using that elusive 'big picture' goal.'s not working! And really now...I mean really Patty...who have you been kidding? I don't do well with big picture , overwhelming goals! When I had huge projects in nursing school, or a major exam..I would first panic and and think how the hell can I do all that?? But then, after a few deep breaths, and maybe a glass of wine..ha!.. I would remember that I needed to break it it bit by bit. Finish one part, and go on to the next until it was complete. That's how I do it best. Soooo...yeah. That's my new plan here. I'm setting goals. I'm coming up with rewards. By God I think she's got it!!!

So without much they are..ta da!!!!

Starting weight-160

155...get a pedicure (gotta start small)

150...get a manicure (NEVER do will be a treat)

145...check out which jeans in my closet fit-by now some of my former/wish jeans should be close, then trash the jeans I've been wearing for 2 years!!! a really awesome dress and heels-because at this point I'll be sooo close goal weight-new jeans and t-shirt-yep..a skinny t-shirt. And maybe even a new sexy Vicki's Secret push up bra with a matching thong. Yeah...definitely!

And finally..the goal of all goals...the bikini I've been dying to put on for way too long. And a night on the town feeling like myself again. That will be the best goal/gift ever.

Maintain for 3 months...pitch all the tunic/preggers looking crap in my closet!!

Low carb, starting new with 2 more weeks of 20 carbs or less
Stay right around 1200 calories
Work out at least 4 days out of the week..try for 5 or 6
Focus on weight training, with some cardio for heart health
Drink the water
Limit alcohol to one night a week

    I love the idea that you are setting goals. I had about 20 goals to accomplish along the way. I am getting close, but that's not why I'm commenting. I hope you don't mind if I make a few suggestions.

    Like I said, I LOVE that you're setting goals. I actually think you need to set some more goals. I think 1 goal each 5 lbs loss is far and few between. Realistically, but hopefully not, 5 lbs could take you 6 weeks to take off. Maybe stick a few extra goals in there, like "Lost 10% of body weight" or " halfway to goal." I have so many goals on my page that it's silly, almost ... but not to me ... and that's what really matters the most, right?

    I might also suggest that you put your goals right on the front of your Sparkpage so you see it every time you log on. That's a good reminder.

    I would also pitch the soon-to-be too big clothes long before you maintain for 3 months. You know that once you get to the weight you want to be, that you're NEVER going back to the weight you don't want to be, right? Honestly, the only reason to hang onto those clothes that don't fit and will look ridiculous on you would be out of insecurity. But I know that when you get to 135 there's NO WAY you're gonna be insecure so they need to go asap (We don't wanna give ourselves a reason to overeat again, right?).

    The final suggestion I have is that when you hit your goal of 135 and reward yourself with your trip to Victoria's Secret, you take pictures and send them out to me immediately so I can make sure you reached that goal.

    Ok, ok ... don't anyone yell at me. I'm a man! I can't help it! It's not my fault! I'm a man!!!!! emoticon

    Good for you setting some goals and rewards for yourself! It wil give you something to work toward. I have enjoyed setting some small goals as I haven't had any that I was willing to commit to paper. I like all the trackers because they help me to stay on Stay sparky! emoticon

    Wow.... this is so cool. I don't do well with big picture either, but neither do I do well with short term rewards. I think I'm spoiled. When I want something, I go get it. The hell with earning it; I figure I've earned it just by staying alive and sane. Okay, relatively sane.

    But I really like your "break it down into little pieces" plan. Do you know what I was doing when your blog popped up? Good lord... you'll never believe this. I was going through all my books, seeing how many pages are in each book, and dividing by 14 to get the average number of pages I'll have to read each week before finals in May. And then freaking out at the number. What the hell am I doing? I need to break this down and tackle "ONE" assignment at a time, not the entire semester! And not already thinking about finals when classes haven't even started yet!

    Anyway, I'll follow your 5 lb plan with you and cheer you on every step of the way! It really doesn't seem so overwhelming when you look at it that way, does it? And you can help keep me sane. Good luck to both of us!
