10K in 81:04!

Not exactly a record-breaking time - but it would have gotten me across the Apple Blossom finish line before the parade ran over me. Plus now I have a new goal - get my time under eighty minutes. (If you think of it as improving my time by 1%, that doesn't sound that bad, does it?)

I jogged the first 5K and most of the second, with a couple of short breaks at a brisk walk. If I can make those a little shorter, that'll get me to my time goal.

One tricky thing, though, is that when I get back to DC, I won't be able to do these on the treadmill. (There's a thirty-minute limit on the cardio equipment.) I've never been a great judge of my pace when I'm on a track or a road - I tend to run faster than my moderate jogging pace, and run out of energy faster. Still, I think that with practice, I'll be getting some better times before April.

I know I'm a bit of a HR Monitor junkie...but I found that it's a great tool to pace yourself off the treadmill. If I keep my heart rate within a certain range, I can run for way longer than when I used to run too fast, then have to rest. It's definitely helped me as I've tried to increase my pace without keeling over. :)

Great job on the 10k, then 5k. Awesome!

Morgan!!: That's a good question. It's pretty prominently posted, but I don't know how much they worry about it. I might ask at the front desk. (Not sure yet what my gym hours will be during the semester, but with a morning class, going to the gym early might work well for me ...)

That's awesome! Congrats on your parade-beating potential :)

if you go to the gym at off-peak hours do they still impose the tine limits? I know I've been to gyms where, if nobody is waiting, then they don't care. It's only when there's a line that they enforce the time restrictions.

Woot woot girl! You are totally awesome, Blossom :) Keep up the good work and I know you'll be cruising along very shortly to get it under the 80 minute mark.
