Look What Arrived......

THAT IS RIGHT!!! My personal training certificate study materials! Operation Pass ACE is now in full effect! I am excited, intimidated, nervous and overwhelmed all at the same time! DID YOU SEE ALL THOSE BOOKS??? Exercise physiology, human anatomy, and a few more "sciency" type topics scare me to death BUT I will not let that get the best of me. I have a plan. I adhered to the plan this week. I will next week and the week after that! I am gonna make this happen.

I think my worst fear is not passing the test. I realize that is not the end of the world though. It means I need to go back and study more, learn more. It doesn't mean I am a failure or stupid or an idiot. It simply means that I need to do more!!! Sometimes the things most worthwhile in this life are things we have to work really hard for. Sometimes we have to fail in order to learn a lesson so that later on we can be even more successful. Once I understood that it took a lot of the immobilizing fear out of tackling this challenge.

A few of my favorite examples of those who failed but turned failure into success are Michael Jordan not making his high school basketball team. Hello?!? Look at all he accomplished in the sport. Henry Ford tried and went broke 5 times before Ford Motorcompany took off. Here is a short article that reinforces my sentiment: www.lifeway.com/article/

So, at the end of the day, why do I think my journey should be any different? As long as we learn from our failures or lack of success, there is a TON of value in them.

I have a plan and I will dedicate the time and effort necessary to succeed.. The worst thing I can do is not pass the exam, in which case I will study more and retake it. I will pass!!!

This is directly a result of "The Spark." It is a FANTASTIC book and has a lot of goal setting ideology behind it. I was successful on the weight loss front, I have been successful at keeping it off for the last 3 1/2 years and now I want to enrich my journey by obtaining this certification.

What are your goals? Are you scared of failing? What would you do if you knew you couldn't fail? Do you have a plan for acheiving those goals?

We only get one chance at this thing called life. Let's make it count!!!!

How is the coursework going? I once worked in a physical therapy office, and I always thought the trainers were so helpful, perhaps even more helpful than the therapists. It's great that you are doing this!

I'm excited for you!! And the questions at the end? Yeah, I know what I would do if I know I couldn't fail, but at this moment I'm a chicken and not really pursuing those dreams.. But you got me thinking!

Awesome! I've batted the idea of this around myself a few times in the past year. I've considered the double masters in exercise physiology and nutrition science at SDSU. I would LOVE to have the time to do that program. Nutrition has become a big thing for me lately, and I'd love to study it further. Good luck in your studies and on the test! What do you want to do with it? Personal Training through a club? On your own? Or something else?

emoticon Go Leah! You can do it!

Based on what I've seen on your SparkPage, in your blogs, and at the SparkPeople Convention in May, I think you'll make a great personal trainer.

    Keep up the good work!

Leah, when I decided to go back to school, people constantly asked me, "what degree are you going for?" Looking at the big picture overwhelmed me and I was just trying to find 200 dollars to buy a used book, THAT was my big goal, getting the book for a class! I have now my associates certificate and am taking one class at a time to see where it takes me. When people pressure me I just tell them I plan on taking classes till I'm eighty! (which really, I might, I like school) So I am humming along doing my best and I just keep going, keep doing.
Just take the steps you need, I believe the world really needs you and if you ever ever have a doubt, call me and I'll remind you of what you have done for me. I remember every encouraging word you said to me. What you are about to embark on will really be rewarding to you, because in many ways you are already doing it, your now just making it "official" Love ya girl!
