Lifetime Momentum #11

Friday, January 08, 2010

So it's been about a month and a half since I last blogged. A lot has happened in that time. I was sailing right along with the weight-loss/exercise routine/healthy eating/etc... Then December 11th hit and BAM, I got laid-off. I spent about two weeks in comfort food and then the holidays. Needless to say I didn't fare so well. I was down about 10 pounds and am now back up by that same number. I have been doing much better this past week controlling the eating and even getting into a new exercise routine. As a result of my layoff I lost my gym membership as it was a benefit through the company I was with. My routine had consisted of swimming at least 3 times a week. I was even getting up to around two hours a day in the pool. I loved the swimming and found that it really motivated me to exercise like nothing I have ever done before.

Getting into a new exercise routine has been tough since I no longer have access to a pool. I have begun using the treadmill that we have in the basement, but it seems like a drudgery to me. I just have to keep reminding myself that the results will be worth it and that after a while I will learn to enjoy the treadmill too. I look forward to finding another job, because as soon as I do I'm joining some fitness center somewhere that has a pool. In the meantime I have to stick with some sort of activity.

I mentioned that food is once again under control. I'm actually getting to the point where I'm enjoying the healthy eating again as I did back when I first joined SP.

One of the nice things about being laid-off has been that it has allowed me to spend more time refocusing my life. I have enjoyed the time with my family and have a new fervor to get healthy.

Never Stop Moving!

I had another thought today. A lot of gyms offer a free week trial membership. Maybe now would be a good time to try some different gyms - if they have offers like that by you. Then when you are ready to join one you will know which one you like best - and you will be able to swim.

That is a great silver lining to a very dark cloud. You will get it going again before you know it.

Congrats on getting back on track. One bad month will not change your new life.

Sorry to hear about the pool. Hopefully you will be able to get a new job soon.

I lost most of my weight on the treadmill. I never really did like it but I kept my mind busy by thinking about things, listening to music that keeps me motivated, and watching TV. I would also challenge myself to try to do better each time - either a little longer, a little faster, or a higher incline. Incline walking burns a ton of calories and knowing that helps me through it. Good luck and realize that this is just temporary. You will get another job and will be able to go back to the pool you love.
