January's Hopes and Dreams

Sunday, January 03, 2010

It's 3 days into the new year and I'm just getting myself pulled together. Coming home from vacation really throws a monkey wrench into things. Unfortunately, its back to work tomorrow. I'm working on not being so bummed out by work.

Onward then!

January Goals...

-Lose 5 pounds
-Start the Couch to 5K
-15min 5x a week on the elliptical

-8 glasses of water!!
-Try a new recipe

-Read The Spark
-Daily RAOH and Gratitude in my blogs

All of those are completely attainable. I'm armed with amazing groceries, new Under Armour gear, New fitness DVD's, a water filter, blahblahblah. I'm set and I'm determined.

My RAOH for the day would have to be realizing that eating healthy is really cheap. I spent way more on processed foods and fast foods. I got an entire cart full of veggies, fruit, fish, and salad for about $100 at walmart. Picking up a few staples at aldi's and a few things from Sams Club rounded out my trip at just about $150. Keeping in mind that I bought lots of pantry items and filled my pantry with dry beans, tuna, oatmeal, cereal, etcetc. It wasn't hard to pass the candy aisle by or any of the other snack foods. We read labels and kept our choices healthy. We even got some Egg Beaters on sale. Hooray!!

I'm also big on paying it forward and gratitude. I think people take so many things for granted and I dont want to be one of them. Its important to reflect and be grateful for all the good things. For this year I've donated $8 out of every paycheck to the United Way.

I'm grateful for...
all the amazing groceries in my fridge
my amazing supportive girlfriend and roommate
our water filter
our new plates and bowls
new water bottles
new DVD's
my vacation
the $5 Spark gift certificate that I won
my parents and the awesome presents this year
my ipod touch
Spark =]
The spark book!
and so many other things.

Time to wind down and head to bed =]

Puddle...My company has a special program set up so that it will automatically take it out of each check for a year. I'd donate more but $8 a check is the cap since I'm hourly =] I thought maybe I wouldnt do it this year(I did it in 2009 too) but then I realized I DONT need the money because I had done just fine without it.

Phoenix...You are so right!! Did you know that 2 wheat thins are like 90 calories?! Goodness gracious!

Tootie...I should send you a trophy for reading all my crap =] Everybody thinks its expensive. I thought it was about the same until I just went grocery shopping. I didnt by any red meat or chicken. Just fish and lots of veggie steamer bags(so good). I'll take pictures when I get home tonight off all the deliciousness I bought.

I love that idea of giving a set amount of each check to charity. Such a nice gesture and a good way to remind yourself that not everyone is so blessed! :) You are right eating healthy and close to nature can be very affordable when done correctly!

Awesome! Not only processed foods are heavy on the wallet but they are also expensive to one's health! :)
