Remember This Feeling

Sunday, January 03, 2010

Today was Day 1 of my first Boot Camp Challenge. I didn't make a resolution to get back to more diligent Sparking--I just followed my desire. I was on the fence about doing Boot Camp, but then I saw that a SparkFriend was doing it and decided to join in. The last two months I'd fallen away from tracking nutrition and my gym visits dropped a day or two each week.

The first two days of the New Year, I went to the gym. Today, Day 1 of BC, I decided to go for a walk with my dog since I'd read a Spark article about a boot camp with dogs. It was about 7 degrees when we left the house. I had YakTrax on over my tennis shoes for better footing. As we started off, the dog's excitement got me going, too. I did a combination of walking and jogging. What I thought would be a chore of a workout was fun and affirming. A year ago, I was at least 20 pounds heavier. And I was overcoming knee surgery and residual pain.

Today, thanks to 9 months of Sparking and 6 months of working with a trainer, my legs are much stronger so that I'm even jogging for stints during a walk. What a feeling! I'm not where I want to be, but I am on the way! I hope I can remember this feeling to encourage me on future days when I'm dragging my feet about working out.
