OMG!! People always mention all the food and gaining weight on a cruise. The reason why became immediately evident! I wasn't expecting lunch but we were told lunch was ready. We were greeted with a small glass of champagne -- and then the multitude of choices for food!
We noticed that we ate very large breakfasts at the buffet, but it started to make sense. Sometimes we ate breakfast at 7:00 or 7:30 and then didn't have lunch until 2 p.m. Fortunately, all my training helped me stop eating just before full, and while I ate well, it was easy to stop eating. Lunches were either at the buffet or off ship. Supper was a 3 course meal, but the entrees had reasonable portions for the context of the meal. Still, we had dessert once or more each day which is just weird.
They have an amazing amount of choices at the buffet -- fruit and cheese, pizza, burgers/fries, chips and salsa etc, asian, deli, and then one would change cuisine each day. Soft serve ice cream/frozen yogurt and pizza were available around the clock.
They have "spa" meals which are lower in calorie content and there were ways to make choices to fit a strict diet. My eating seemed increased when compared to my weight reduction intake. I'll be returning to that mode tomorrow.
All the food choices did help motivate taking the stairs. We walked up two flights for the breakfast buffet, but walked up 5 and sometimes 6 flights from the entertainment and supper meals.

    I know what you mean about cruising, Hubby and I try to go once a year and of course always eat too much, hope that for this years cruise I will be a bit smaller. emoticon
