I used to be one of those people who looked forward to New Year's Day because I could shake off all of the bad things that had happened during the previous year and start looking forward to something new and different. The past twelve months have been rough at times, but I sat down with my sketchbook and journal to reflect on what I have accomplished this year.
~I discovered SparkPeople and used it to lose 10 pounds and I have kept the weight off!
~My cardio fitness has improved substantially. I used to get tired out after only a few minutes. Now I can keep going for half an hour!
~I finally stood up to someone who was difficult to deal with...the friendship had definitely become toxic. Asserting myself made me feel empowered and has opened up some new and wonderful opportunities.
~I successfully completed a beginner's hot glass course with my husband. I had wanted to learn how to blow glass for a long time but I was afraid because that molten glass looks so scary! It took some courage, but I learned how to use all of the tools and work safely. I quickly got over my fear and I had so much fun!
~My yoga practice became deeper. I am beginning to discover just how powerful it can be!
So, I am saying farewell to 2009 and appreciating the lessons that it has brought. The slow, small changes that I am making are adding up to something wonderful and I will carry my growing optimism into the new year ahead of me.
All the best for a happy and healthy 2010!
