What Clicked?

Today, as I was donating clothes that are way too big for me, a woman who has known me and my weight struggles for a long time asked, "What clicked for you this time? How did you finally lose all the weight?"

I told her I'd have to think about it. And I have started thinking.

Many things have finally "clicked." Maybe identifying what worked will be a help to me when (not if) I need to get it back.

Right off, I'd say the most important thing that clicked is that all-or-nothing-thinking is my enemy. If I couldn't do it perfectly, I'd give up. I have learned that when I'm not perfect, forgive myself, be my own best friend, and do the best I can as soon as I can. Don't wait for Monday, or morning, or even the next meal. Grab a glass of water, track everything I can remember - estimating when needed, and start the exercise . Now. I'm back on track. Just like that.

    Absolutely agree. I have had to work hard on that "all or none" thinking. Doing better, but still haven't mastered it yet. Congrats on your success. Have a wonderful day.

    I so agree about all or nothing. I think I only apply the 'that's blown it' logic to food and I've no idea where it comes from. I read a quote from Indygirl on the Dailyspark that said, "If you got a traffic ticket, you wouldn't go break every traffic law the rest of the day like you do when you eat a bite of pizza and just keep going."

    I thought this was a good way of putting it into perspective.
