Day 36 - Snow Day

Saturday, December 19, 2009

Lots of snow in Philadelphia - they say all told there will be 15 or 20". Services at my synagogue were cancelled so I stayed in all day. Not any aerobic exercise today. Aerobic exercise on Sunday will be..... wait for it ...... snow shoveling!

Went through a bunch of the stuff in the basement and discovered the subfloor rotting is more extensive than I thought. I love being a homeowner. LOL

Started reading a book and took a nap.

Cooked a lovely soup. Started out planning to make mushroom barley, but discovered a grain moth infestation that had gotten into the barley and brown rice and bulghar. Sautéed up some onions and garlic and carrots. Added the mushrooms - regular, baby bella, and dried Japanese mushrooms that I can't name here because when I try to post I get a message that I shouldn't use profanity. LOL LOL Spiced with some marjoram and thyme. Added some vegetable broth and 2 finely grated yukon gold potatoes to thicken it. Yum! Due to the grain moths, I did a fair amount of cleaning in the kitchen.

Talked to a couple of people on the phone. That's it for my day - lovely.

It is nice to have a day of rest forced upon us by Mother Nature from time to time....this time it may be a day or 2! I'm going to try your idea of shredded potatoes in the soup, never heard of that before! I know what you mean about house repairs...just keep praying until you can afford things. Be careful out on those slippery streets! Do you get any time off from work for the holiday?
