i'm back

It's been quite a year. I switched jobs, hubby finished school and is working now. I got diagnosised with myasthenia gravis. Now I know why I was fatigued all the time. However, it isn't curable. I filed for disability yesterday. By far one of the hardest things I've ever done. I miss working, and I miss my old life. I've gained so much weight cause I can't really exercise. I'm up to 200lbs. And so depressed about it. But with everything in my life out of my control, I thought I could at least control what I put in my mouth.

    Welcome back!
    You will reach your goals - it just take time and a lot of effort (I'm finding that out!).
    I had a severe leg injury a few years ago and was sure I'd never exercise again.
    I bought a pedometer (Omron is good) and started keeping track of what I call "purposeful steps" each day. I started out walking around and around my apartment - I'd walk maybe a hundred steps and then sit down - rest - and walk another hundred. I also started walking during commercials of my favorite TV shows. (I soon found out I needed a kitchen-type chair to sit on - my leg made it too difficult to get off the couch quickly!) Now, I do the "commercial walking every evening and average about 2000 steps a night.
    I also started doing many of the strength exercises shown in the demos - but I do most of them sitting on my chair. You can also get DVDs and videos of "chair aerobics." (try chairaerobics.com, I think or just google it)
    I found that increasing my activity actually increased my control over what I eat!
