Day 31 - Stress - the final frontier

Monday, December 14, 2009

Last night before bed, I went down to move the wash into the dryer. Alas, there was water spewing out from under the washer. Aaargh! So I got to bed late and slept poorly.

This would not be a good time to buy a new washer. I'm getting replacement windows and door and some masonry done and I need the electrician to come out and fix a few things.

So I stressed over it pretty much all day today. I've been in the house 12 years and the washer was here when I moved in so I don't know how old it is. Do I bet $100 on bringing someone in to look at it? If it is a hose or maybe even a gasket, that might do the trick. If not, it's money I don't have down the drain (pun intended) and I'll need to get a new one.

I finally called the plumber this evening. Hopefully he'll get back to me tomorrow. Hopefully it's a hose that can be replaced.

I am very proud of myself. I did pretty good eating wise and exercise wise and kept on track even though I was stressed and tired.

    When it rains, it pours!
If you're looking for a deal on a washer, Dominic's in South Philly on Passyunk Ave. sells floor models that might have a dent or scratch for a cheap price. I bought one from them probably 12 years ago...still going strong. A neighbor of mine bought all her applicances there and was always pleased. Don't know if they have warranties...been too long to remember. They did deliver, that I recall.

    Good luck!

I swear to you that appliances just KNOW when you don't need them to die, and they commit suicide just to make you crazy! I had my entire family visiting when one of my dishwashers decided to die - and by leaking all over the kitchen and under the cabinets! And I have lived in appliance hell - where every single applicance died the minute the warranty was over - washer, dishewasher, oven, microwave, fridge... it was awful! I know they were builder's discount appliances, but they were a major name brand... Anyway, I hope your washer can be fixed for not too much $$$. Good luck!
