My first Tastefully Simple Open House...

Sunday, December 13, 2009

I had my first Tastefully Simple Open house yesterday. I spent hours preparing for it (actually longer than that) I literally invited EVERYONE - over 100+ people - Got the house looking great (which was needed anyway and it looks awesome still LOL) Kitchen looks amazing - so does the front room and bathroom LOL

I spent just over $40 in food/samples: Made Beer Bread, Wheat Beer bread, 6 dips, Almond Pound cake served with Rhubarb Fruit Spread and For the Love of Cookies...

I had 2 fears: 1) that I didn't make enough and had a huge turnout (which I'd have prefered because that would have been awesome to have had so many new customers)
Or 2) that I made too much and didnt have a good turnout.

Well, my Open house was 2-5pm yesterday...

First person didn't show until 3pm!! It was one of the moms that was in our Homeschooling group (I said was, as this year her boys are back in public school - I so miss her and the boys at our homeschool group) When she got here, she couldn't believe when I said she was the first one to come. She thought my set up was beautfiul (I worked so hard on making it all look great - I had everything laid out so perfectly) She even went home and posted on Facebook how lovely everything looked.

Next person didn't arrive until 4:15 - it was someone that I knew wouldn't buy anything - not even sure why she came - other than she was expecting free free/handouts. I really don't like when her and her daughters ever come over - as they are literally bottomless pits... when she called me at 11am to confirm the time and said she'd be bringing the girls, I made it VERY clear on the phone that the samples are for "adults only... and that there will be popcorn downstairs for the kids" Mike said her daughters held onto the popcorn bowl and ate so fast until it was GONE!! (thats why I didn't want them in the kitchen with my TS products that "I" pay for and was for the guests) As expected, she came, they ate, and then left...

Then at 4:40 my neighbor (just moved in the end of Sept) came - it was very nice getting to know her... she loved the Almond Pound cake and the Rhubarb Strawberry Fruit Spread I served with it (bought both) I admit, those 2 things are as yummy as can be!

And no one else came

Pretty sad that I invited so many and even had 7 people that were "definetly" going to come... and several that "maybe" would be here... and to only have THREE??

Anyway, last nights dinner: Beer Bread, dips and chips! LOL Today's lunch: Same!! Last nights sanck: Almond pound cake with fruit spread and chocolate chip cookies... Tonights snack: same! LOL

The Almond Pound cake and fruit spread, cookies, and 4 of the 6 dips are now gone... And we all have very full tummies! We probably all gained a ton of weight!!

I think the most frustrating things are: 1) our Sunday School class had a Christmas party at 6pm yesterday - it was 3 doors down from us and 35 people attended... but not one of them came to my Open House and 2) no one will have a Party - but yet these same people host Pampered Chef, Partilite candle and other parties... I haven't had a party since March 7th - ya! I had 2 parties that day (one was hosted by the first mom that came to my OH) but none since. I have to sell a minimum of $400 every 3 months to be able to stay in the business... and the best way to do that is through parties. If I could just do ONE party a month that would be AWESOME! Needless to say, I've got a basement FULL of TS stuff since I am determined to make this work. I'm not going to give up.

Oh and one other frustrating thing - my upline got a new lady that joined a few months ago and she somehow has parties every week and often sells over $1200 every month! HOW does she do it??

Sorry for the long blog - just needed to get this out... I was so bummed at all the hard work I put into my Open House and having invited over 100+ people only for 3 to show up...

That sounds so frustrating. I'm sorry for you. I have no advice that wasn't already given. Best wishes on your business.

Sorry you worked so hard on the Open House but didn't get the turnout you wanted. I'm sure everything looked lovely. Good luck -- I'm sure you'll make this business work for you!

I think there's so many things going on right now that people might be forgetting everything that's happening. A lot of people are kind of split between shopping, kid's activities, traveling, family coming over, planning Christmas dinner....

Here's a thought: maybe go to that new lady's party and see if you can pick up some tips or ideas. It would be interesting to see how she's getting so many people to come over.
