Need a Little Christmas

Sunday, December 13, 2009

I really didn't know what I was going to do this year. I didn't feel like decorating. I didn't feel like doing much of anything but sleep. Sleep has been my best friend lately.

But, I went out Friday and bought a new Christmas Tree with the lights already on it. I didn't want to fight the lights with the old tree, I also bought a new tree skirt then I went into the eaves and dragged out the box of ornaments. They were like finding old friends. The angel I colored in kindergarten and mom always insisted on putting on the tree is on my new tree. The different ornaments we all bought throughout the years. My Melvin Merrymouse collection and my cat angel that my best friend bought me after my oldest cat died. One of my neighbors sold his house yesterday and he came by with some ornaments to remember him by. He was a friend of my parents and I have known him forever. As I was decorating the tree, I realised I was enjoying it and I in fact needed it. What I couldn't find were the Christmas doves that mom put on the tree. So I went to the Wild Bird store and picked out a pair of male and female cardinal ornaments to represent both of my parents. They look lovely.

My neighbor from across the street also gave me a Wreath for my Door so I hung that today as well. When all was said and done, it was after dark and I went outside to see the tree from the street. It looks beautiful to me. Simple and beautiful. emoticon

December 22nd is when I have my next surgery for the Kidney Stones. What a way to get a week off!

    Good for you, Kerri! :)

Sometimes even if I don't feel like it, if I can get up and decorate for the holiday, it just makes everything a tiny bit cheerier (if that's a word--LOL).

Kerry, I will be praying for you. My Mom has a terrible time with kidney stones, I have seen her on the floor just crying in agony, Then she had stints put in for the last passing and DR told her lazer surgery next time. I think it scared her out of having another one. I am praying for your full and speedy recovery.

That being said I am so happy that the Christmas bug did bite you after all and that you now are decorated and feeling the wonderful spirit of Christmas. I loved what happened to you and around you.

God bless you Kerry in the wonderful holiday time.

    Love and blessings,
    Nimma

Ouch to the surgery! But hoping it brings lasting RELIEF!

We've just finally put up our tree...have a similar one, w/ lights built in. Sounds like you're coming around to making the best of your holidays.

    Take care of yourself...

Kerry is that your house?? its LOVELY!
My dad never missed Christmas with us. He brought so much joy and love....my first year without "Papa." as the kids called him. it was so hard for me....after Thanksgiving i went into a slump. I didnt want to bake cookies or decorate. But one night I heard Daddy...he said Holly love, do you think it is a good honor of my memory to mope around? My dad died when i was 12. my mom died when i was 5. I had aunts and uncles, yes, but it wasnt the same. So i made my own happy. You need to make your happy and I will be with you in your heart.
So i did...it was one of the best Christmases I've had.
this is the first year i didnt cry when i unwrapped Daddy's special ornament for the tree. its a little bicycle with a pipe cleaner man on it..the spokes are like wired tinsel...its tiny and fragile. He got it in Bastonne, France when he was in WW2 and stationed there, just before the Battle of the Bulge. He always treasured it and i know there is more to the story but he wasnt telling. little bike dude is front and center...put on the tree with my usual "love you and miss you, Daddy...but here you are in our hearts!!"
Love you Kerry...i know how hard this is. You are doing fantastic. Honor her memory..she would want you to!! I am betting she is smiling right now at your lovely tree and decorations. I am so proud of you...you are in my heart too!!!
    Hugs

It's hard to feel the Christmas spirit when you have so many tough things going on in your life, but I'm glad you got some decorations up. I hope that seeing all the lovely ornaments brings you holiday cheer. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Many people do not like this time of year. It brings up "bad memories or feeling" and Yes i too get tired of the Comerricalism. But Reading your blog you have found a great meaning to christmas. The joy or memebering. I love that about Christmas tree that are what some would say mixed match. Not all the same balls on it but memories on it! I love how you also made even your own memories for the tree by getting the cardinals! Good for you!
I am so sorry to hear you are going to have surgery so close to Christmas. I wish you the best and hope your recovery goes well for the holidays!!

Thank you for sharing this. I love getting out my Christmas decorations every year. Each one is special to me and brings back so many wonderful memories. My mom painted many of them and they are so beautiful. Last year when she sold her house I got a few things she had from my childhood. I loved pulling them out this year!
