Today I finished my 2nd round of Chalean Extreme! I did my first round around april-juneish and this round was very different for me- in a good way! I waited a few months between rounds because my fibromyalgia was flaring up during summer and because of the pain/depression I got very little exercise in all together so I didn’t want to commit to a round of anything.
When I started this round in September, I didn’t know if I’d even make it through the whole thing. I started off slow- not much cardio at all but never missed any of the strength circuit days. Also, I didn’t eat particularly good for at least half the round because of the tragic loss of my dog and depression. All of these factors hindered my results from being optimal, but for the work I did, especially the last lean phase and what it was- I notice change & I’m happy with the results for the effort I put in.
I started my good eating habits again somewhere along the push phase (2nd of 3 months). Also this was when I began adding cardio in more, ultimately working out 6 days a week.
As a result of not being too active all summer, plus bad eating & some alcohol I did put weight on prior to the round. I lost at least 8 lbs with chalean extreme this round and without a doubt put on muscle (didn’t bulk up! Leaned out!) because my jeans fit good again.
I made the mistake of not taking stats or progress pics because I was so fed up with how I looked when I was beginning. All the money in the world was not going to have my take the before (I know. I know)
I mixed in Turbo Jam & Rev Abs with the Chalean Cardio. On days when I had extra effort, I would sometimes do extra strength training or the total strength dvd from rev abs with the circuits. You really don’t need to do extra to get good results with chalean extreme, I’m just a bit crazy ;) I also have the 4 accelerated fat burning work outs.
Also I would modify moves that didn’t feel right for me. Some days my body physically feels stronger then others or sometimes certain body parts would hurt. There would be days when instead of tricep kick backs in plank I’d only do the kickbacks and then just hold planks right after.
My first round of chalean extreme I absolutely hated the last lean phase. I thought the moves were hard and didn’t see a big difference. This time quite the opposite was true. The moves were challenging, and my body really did lean out again like crazy. I think my first round during the lean phase I was making the mistake of lifting to heavy for 12 reps/2 body parts at once.
Here’s a quick review of the phases:
Phase 1: BURN Start lifting weights to jump-start your metabolism.
Phase 2: PUSH Chalene shows you how to lift heavy—perhaps beyond your comfort zone- so you build the muscle you need to burn fat.
Phase 3: LEAN Once the foundation has been built, Chalene brings it home with new routines and dynamic moves to literally melt the fat off your body.
I also got significantly better in holding my balance with lunges by the end of this round!
Of the three phases, push is without a doubt my favorite. I really like working one body part at a time & LOVE lifting heavy!! It makes me feel so empowered and strong!!
Another thing I love about CLX is that all the workouts are under an hour. This to me is a double benefit because I can be done and know I worked my butt in a small amount of time, or if I have more time and energy I can keep going like I said before. Chalene is so motivational as a trainer too.
I notice my posture improved with this round. My abs are actually tight again, and my butt is lifted. and my arms look better then they did. I HATE my arms- I have bat wings that just don’t want to go away completely ever. They are my worst body part. I see more definition in them- ESPECIALLY in the area where the deltoids meet the biceps. My triceps are more tone & I think another round will be the icing on the cake.
For the rest of December I am going to do various beachbody dvds- possibly some p90x, definitely brazil butt lift & rev abs and some turbo jam. This upcoming week I am going to take a recovery week- work out a little less intensely because my shoulders have been a little sore and I don’t want an injury.
I enjoy doing programs like p90x and chalean extreme because of the heavy lifting. I am a big believer that weightlifting is what helps you lose lbs. and change and reshape your body. Don’t get me wrong, you need cardio too to burn off fat, but the weights are the magic and you can’t be afraid to lift them!
I plan on starting my third round of chalean extreme on January 3rd, 2010! I’m very excited to go back into another round. This time I will be taking progress pics and stats every 30 days like I’m supposed to ;)
