MY 7TH GRADER'S GYM CLASS-"MY MOTIVATIONAL FITNESS PLAN"

Saturday, December 05, 2009

***"DON'T MEASURE YOURSELF BY WHAT YOU HAVE ACCOMPLISHED, BUT BY WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE ACCOMPLISHED WITH YOUR ABILITY."

Today you will have the opportunity to create a personal fitness plan for yourself. Begin by thinking about your own personal goals for fitness, what is your motivation? Keep in mind a general goal of TOTAL physical fitness. Record your specific goals on the attached worksheet.
Next, think about how you can measure your progress toward achieving your goals. Record your plan for this.
Once you have your goals in mind, decide how you like to achieve them. What activities do you think will 1) help you reach your goals, and 2) fit into your current lifestyle (time, school, sports, family). Record the activities under your exercise plan. Next to each of the activities explain why you selected that activity. Choose a person to help you stay motivated and encourage you to complete your personal fitness plan. This will be your motivation coach!
Now think about what would hold you back from this goal or completing the activities, these would be the barriers. Describe how you will overcome these barriers and write your ideas on the sheet. Explain some ideas you have to keep yourself motivated, what or who is going to keep you going when you want to quit. Finally write a contract with yourself to carry out this fitness plan you have described.

You will be scored on the following criteria:
1. How well you show that you understand health concepts related to physical fitness.
2. How well you demonstrate health skills related to goal setting and planning.
3. Your ability to keep track of your goal-progress throughout the 1/4.
4. How well you demonstrate understanding of the importance of physical activity to your overall health.

Fitness related areas, below each record activities you do or could do to complete each area:
*Cardio
*Muscular endurance and strength
*Flexiblity

(THEN IT GOES INTO WHERE HE RECORDS EVERYTHING, WITH NO ROOM TO WRITE.) MY SON IS A SKATEBOARDER, PLAY STATION, WII, AND A TREE CLIMBER. HEE HEE. HE NEVER LIKED SPORTS OR ROLLERSKATING ETC. HE IS A SKINNY KID, GETTING TO BE TALL FOR HIS AGE, ALWAYS HAD BAD ANKLES AND NO CONCENTRATION EXCEPT FOR GAMES HE CAN PLAY ON THE TV OR COMP. HE IS VERY ARTISTIC, BUT NOT COMPETITIVE, I HAVE SO MUCH SPORTING GEAR BECAUSE I GREW UP AS A TOMBOY, A BIT OF A JOCK, BUT NOBODY PLAYS WITH ME. HE KNOWS ALL ABOUT SP. HE WILL DO THE FOOD/ WATER FOR HE LOVES TO READ LABELS ETC. BUT WHEN HE READS THIS PAPER, HE'LL SAY "YA, I'LL DO IT", THEN I WILL NEVER SEE OR HEAR ABOUT IT AGAIN TILL REPORT CARDS. I PRINTED OFF MY OWN COPY TO POST RIGHT BY THE BATHROOM MIRROR FOR HIMSELF IN THE MORNING.( HE SURE LOVES THAT MIRROR BEFORE SCHOOL. HEE HEE.) I'LL PUT A PEN BY IT. THINK THAT WILL HELP MY MOST FORGETFUL 12 YR. OLD? IF I HAVE TO I WILL TAKE IT TO SCHOOL THE END OF NEXT 1/4 TO MAKE SURE THE GYM TEACHER GETS IT. TOO ROUGH?
ANY IDEAS? HE KNOWS I HAVE ALL YOU ON SP AND THE BEST RESOURCES!!! FOR THOSE THAT DON'T HAVE KIDS, THINK OF YOUR LOVED ONES. LIKE RON TODAY. HE YELLED AT ADAM FOR NOT LISTENING THE 1ST TIME, WELL....I ASKED HIM, INTERUPTED HIM ACTUALLY, "RON DID YOU FEED THE BIRDS YET? 4TH TIME I ASKED". IF LOOKS COULD KILL!!! I SHOULDN'T HAVE, BUT THE emoticon MADE ME DO IT.

Great for the teacher to coming up with that for the kids. I don't have kids in school, but I've heard that a lot of them have done away with PE. Unbelievable! My kids always had PE, and challenges they would compete in that we could come and watch.

Keep after him. With your emoticon attitude how can he NOT do good! emoticon

this reminded me of my daughter yesterday. she had a very long assignment for Spanish which she always complains about but somehow has a b average. she was reading the thing to me, i said that does sound hard but you are a smart girl and will figure it out. she started reading again. i said who"s homework is this. emoticon she started reading again. i said it will never get done unless you do something about it and start it. emoticon emoticon I want my kids to exceed in life after school so i try to stay out of their homework and school work as much as i can. i will give the tools and ideas but no answers only questions. this is why they call their dad when they forget their homework at home. emoticon seeing i have health conditions i may not always be there to hold their hand i want them to stand on their own as much as they can, emoticon good luck.

Good for that teacher! That's a totally realistic way to approach fitness - and it takes into account each students' preference!

And good for you for following up with your son!!!

    Yes good luck

I was lucky my kids always tried something for a year then if they didn't like it we try something else.

Now they both went into the Army so boy then they had to workout and I am very proud they did.

I was a tomboy too and so glad for that or I would be fatter then I am.

I guess just be happy he dose do a little something but keep trying to make him do more.

    Nice blog
