Having it all

I used to live an entirely different life. I would wake up each morning by 6:00 a.m. and head to the gym for my hour and a half workout before going to work or school (I'm a morning person! :-) At work I'd have my usual breakfast (an english muffin with peanut butter and orange juice), my usual lunch (sushi and seaweed salad, a veggie delight from subway, or a big salad from au bon pain) and my usual snacks (baked lays, a banana, carrots and hummus). I'd go home and hang out with my roommate and her girls while making baked tofu and salad for dinner. I was in bed by 10:00 p.m. every night to ensure I'd be up again by 6:00 a.m. to hit the gym. Every day was pretty much a repeat of the day before and that was exactly how I liked it. I'd had enough upheaval in my life to last a lifetime. And then one day at my best friend's insistence I decided to try Match.com I figured I'd meet a few losers, have a few laughs at their expense and move on with my life. Instead, within two weeks I ended up getting a message from a man who lived 800 miles away in Chicago. Within three months he had flown out to Boston to meet my family for Thanksgiving and the following month I would fly to Chicago for Christmas and meet his. Falling in love and having a baby were the last things I would have expected out of life but that's exactly what happened to me. So now I live in Chicago with my boyfriend and our very active 8 month old. I'm finishing my degree online and trying my best to balance motherhood with school and my relationship. It's not always easy but it's EXTREMELY rewarding. Instead of my 5 day a week workouts I now try to fit in working out when I can. Right now, with finals coming up, I may not be able to workout as often as I like but I CAN make more of an effort to eat healthier foods and that's exactly the gift I'm going to give myself this Christmas. I don't have to be perfect and I don't have to try and have it all. I just want to lead a healthy and balanced lifestyle. That's the kind of example I want to set for my little girl.
