Turkey belly burn!

Sunday, November 29, 2009

Had a terrific Thanksgiving w/ the fam. Lots of laughter, good food, good wine. I did not get carried away w/ the eating this year and did not eat myself into a painful coma. I did not hang up my running shoes for the holiday, either. I logged runs for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. However, for as "good" as I told myself I was, those post-holiday runs felt the hardest. I had the most horrible belly burn on Friday morning!! A local running-specialty store had a "Run for The Money" special. I didn't realize until the night before that they were giving away $5 in store credit for each mile logged up to 6 mi / $30. Who am I to pass up a discount?! Crazy, right? Even though I knew that I had plans to do a long run w/ my bud on Saturday, I simply could not resist the opportunity to run off some dinner calories and get SWAG and discount dollars. I only had to suffer through the fires of Mordor in my belly and I could get a coveted $35 running vest for 5 bucks!!
The strangest thing about it though was this: for as lethargic and plodding-slow as I felt, my times were actually better. Which I still find hard to believe. In about two weeks, we are due to kick our mileage up to 10 miles!! February will be here so quickly that if I dwell on it, I just may panic. Pray for me!
