The Weird Thing About Getting A Gym Membership

I've had a gym membership for 3 and 1/2 weeks now. I have really liked going but have only been getting there 2 times a week. I'm hoping to change that to 3-4 times a week in the near future.

Here is the weird thing about this. If I don't make it to the gym, you'd think I would exercise at home. I haven't. We have a treadmill and exercise bike in the basement plus numerous exercise DVD's. I used those things to lose the 70+ pounds before I got a gym membership. Why the heck am I stopping just because I got a gym membership??!!

Time to re-adjust my thinking. If I don't workout at the gym - I work out at home. So I'll finish this blog and get to it. Time to put some miles on my tracker.

    Interesting situation. Maybe it would help if you set appointments for your workouts. That way it wouldn't matter if you were going to the gym or working out at home - you'd have your time set aside. Yeah, I know, easier said than done. Stay focused Max, you'll get there.

    And I have no excuse because I can go for free at work, and yet I find excuses half the time too! My goal this week is to go three times. After this weekend, I'll need it.

    I have the same habit..its not just you!! It is so easy to let any small thing derail our plans! What helps me is that I drop Natalie at preschool MWF & then head to the gym..that is 3 days I should have no excuses!! & if we all stay works well! Hope you got some fitness min. in today....I just got back from the gym!! :0) have a great week!

    Good for you for realizing this!

    I will be signing up for my gym membership on Wednesday. I am so excited to get a place indoors to exercise. I can lift weights in my own house, but I have been doing all my cardio outside and it is getting cold out there...

    I do want to get some exercise DVDs, though. I need some in-house cardio options in the mix!

    Max - your post was perfect timing for me. I also have plenty of exercise stuff at home but with the weather turning colder I've been thinking about joining a gym so I can continue to walk / run. There's no reason for it, I can bundle up and still go outside. If it's too cold I have an elliptical and weight machine. It's funny how we have to change things up to keep motivated. I still may join a gym to take some classes but then the guilt creeps in and I feel like if I don't exercise at home that I don't deserve the membership.

    Let's keep moving!!

    You know I am exactly the same way, I've been going to the gym as well and when I don't make it I do not attempt to work out at home in any way. It's weird because you would think I would want to get moving at home, at least. I think that is my excuse to "take a day off" when in reality I really need to get my butt moving....
