I sooo want a heart rate monitor

I'm kind of annoyed...I HATE how cardio equipment calorie read out is so inaccurate. I love seeing the big numbers, but I hate thinking...there's no way!...in the back of my mind. The elliptical...says I burn 330 in 30 min (which seems high to me) and SP says 241! That's almost a 100 cal difference!
On the other end of the scale...I used my Nike + while on the treadmill which told me I burned 421, SP told me I burned about 268 and the treadmill said somewhere in the 200s (darn, I forget!) So actually in this case it appears my Nike + is inaccurate, but then again...it's not meant for treadmill use...I just wanted to track my mileage online.
My point is this...I need a better way to know how much I am burning FOR REAL but w/ all of these devices, there is just too much variance in calories burned. I know what's gonna be on MY Christmas list.
Here are the pros/cons for the day:
+another hr at the gym = 4 day streak
+made it to the gym even WITHOUT work out buddy (I usually bail on myself/make excuses)..eating the bagel gave me more motivation to go burn it off!)
+I THINK I am starting to get grossed out by Crystal Light and liking plain water better than I used to (but still not drinking enough...boo!) I usually hate water plain but the CL is just tasting too sweet, even w/ extra water in it. Maybe my tastebuds are adjusting to preferring less sweets....O GOD PLEASE!
-ate Panera bagel @ bfast...should've just had 1/2 but it was just TOO GOOD..perfect ex of why I am an "all or nothing" person...ugh!
-b/c of the damn bagel I was a few 100 out of range today bc I had a hard time making up for it bc I was too hungry from all the carbs :(
