Richmond Marathon DONE!!!!

I had a really good race, despite some funny things happening......
All went well with the expo/packet pick-up/eating out night before and sleep. I checked my garmin in its cradle and it said Battery charging up in the morning, walking to race start, garmin is DEAD. It wont even switch on..........then I see the 4:15 pacer and he is dressed as a clown, and everyone who knows me knows I am deathly afraid of clowns and midgets I am thinking ok, things happen in 3`s what next???.so anyway, Steve offered me his garmin and I of course said no, I will just go by the clocks.......well hahaha off we go and there are no clocks till the half way point and 20 mile and finish, I just tried to stay behind the clown LOL. I could see his crazy wig bobbing along in front of me .LOL
I got to the half in 2:08 something with a bathroom break and it was really a nice course. No issues with wind, hills, weather, I felt good, just tried to stay ticking along. By mile 17 I was starting to get tired, and this I know is due to a lack of long runs, which is soon to be rectified..........I had my 4 gels by mile 22, felt ok again, and got ready for the downhill finish, having no clue what the clock would say........hoping it would be under 4:30 and I could break the curse of the last 7 or so , always being 4:30 or over.......(Ironman doesnt count) LOL, and that actually was 5:30 LOL
So I heard Steve shouting for me while we were all tearing down the hill to the finish, quads saying "What the hell you playing at?? ", and then I saw the clock saying 4:26 something. I was so happy. Official finish time is 4:25:17, my 2nd fastest marathon. I feel good today, not too sore at all, and despite not getting 4:15, I am still happy because I couldnt run for 4 months earlier in the year, and never even thought I could get my mileage up to running another marathon ever again.
We went out to dinner at night and Bart Yasso and Amby Burfoot were at the next table...............very cool !!!
Then the 3rd thing happened, we got back to the hotel and turned on the telly, and The Wizard of Oz was on with the midgets LOL LOL
I am also really happy Steve broke 3 hrs again............amazing really........and he got to run with some really cool people, one of whom was Matt Lofton.........who I was sorry I didnt get a chance to meet...........also well done to Jeanne for an amazingly fast time !!!
Thanks to all DM folks who thought about us, supported us,it really makes a huge difference.

I am now contemplating running Shamrock again........I am not satisfied and I know that if Steve trains me I can go faster............BUT I will take a couple of days off LOL

I hate the Wizard of the Oz - all those flying monkeys gave me the willies as a child. And I don't like clowns either... :) I can see that Jeri feels the same way.

What a great race for you! You can't go wrong with Steve training you to be faster - lol. Can't wait to see what your new PR will be at the Shamrock Marathon...

Woooo Hoooooo Ally!!!!! That is so bizarre with the clown!! I don't like clowns, either. They are creepy!!!

As for the Wizard of Oz, I find the Flying Monkeys to be the creepiest of all!
