Tricked by the scale...

Sunday, November 15, 2009

My husband went for a check up the other day and discovered that his weight on the doctor's scale was about 7 pounds higher than on our scale at home. Yesterday I checked my weight at a friend's place and confirmed it. Our scale is out of whack so the numbers that I've been tracking here on Sparkpeople are wrong.
I'm quite annoyed that I don't know exactly how much I weighed when I started this program. I'm also irritated that I have to revise my goals and lose even more weight than I had originally thought.
I know I shouldn't let this bother me...I'm making progress after all. I can fit into some of the pants that I had outgrown and I feel less bulk around my waist. Still, in the end, my goal comes down to reaching my target weight and I feel a bit cheated by the scale.
Today I'm off to the store to buy a new digital one. It had better not lie to me!

You're not alone, I had a similar experience when I went to the hospital and my weight was higher by about the same as yours 7 pounds. Of course I tried to tell myself that it was wrong. My trusty scale couldn't be that far off, but when I bought a new digital scale sure enough I was 7 lbs heavier. There are days I am tempted to bring out the old scale, just to see that lower number magically appear. emoticon
Take care and here's hoping you have a great week.

I'm sorry, hun. But it's all relative. Weight is just a number, it's more about how you feel about yourself and how your clothes fit, than a number on a scale.

Having said that, not long after I started SP I discovered I'd been converting my weight from stone and pounds into whole pounds, and made a mistake in my calculations, which meant I was heavier than I'd realised. I was more worried at being thought a liar than anything though, lol.

My scale also told me I'd gained 2lbs this week, although I don't see how that could be, as I had only gone slightly over my calories a couple of days. I decided not to worry about it and just keep doing what I'm doing. I'll get where I'm going all in good time.

Keep your chin up and have a good week.

AAAAAAAAAAARRRGHH!! How frustrating - I generally loathe scales and have been searching for a new one too.

Here's wishing you health and wellness no matter the numbers!
