Neo Chemical Food

I was talking to another passenger on the bus this morning, during the course of the conversation, she mentioned taking cod liver oil as a child. I was never given cod liver oil as a child, but my mother gave us something called Neo chemical Food.
For those of you who hae never heard of it before, Neo chemical Food was a thick sticky liquid only slightly more runny than molasses. It was loaded with all knds of nutrients. The joy of it was dipping the spoon into the jar and twirling it around to capture all the drippy stings then quickly putting it into the mouth and slowly sucking the spoon clean.
We always had it just before bed, and I remember that we always had to kiss and hug our dad before our nightly dose because he could not abide the smell of it.
I loved that stuff but over the years, we got away from it and on the vitamin tablets. As a very young 20 something, newly married, I found a jar of NCF on the bottom shelf at the local pharmacy, and introduced my husband to this delight. He loved it. However, when we went to get another jar of it, there was no more to be had.
When I got to work, I googled NCF and although I did not find much, I did find a couple of comments. Apparently others have fond memories of it as well, and seems to have been quite popular in England also.
Have you ever heard of Neo Chemical Food? Did you like it? Or do you have another favorite?
