Food, Food, Food, or is it?

Thursday, November 05, 2009

I have been reading the Politics of Food. As a citizen of this country, it was always my naive understanding that the government we pay to protect and serve does this for us. The longer I live, the more I can confirm that Power creates corruption and it's no different in the food industry. The crap we put into our bodies for corporate sake is amazing. Most of the time it's not food, most of the "middle isle" food in the grocery stores is anything but food, but it sure makes a nice profit, and it sure is addicting. Is that coincidental? Idon't think so.. Chips, cookies, cakes, ding dongs, crackers, etc. etc. The marketing industry of this country makes sure to shove into our faces every chance they get..TV...magazines...billboar
ds...radio...I have come to look at them as the enemy. I won't bring this junk into my house, so I am filtering out the marketing as best I can. When I watch T.V. Commercials get muted, and I go into another room. When I am at the gym, and the t.v. shows a hamburger commercial..you know the ones, dripping grease..melting cheese..I turn my head and ignore what I see. I no longer will succumb to the marketing gurus of this country. When I decide to eat something, it will be because I make a conscience decision to eat it, not because I have been brainwashed.. So next time you want to grab a handful of cookies, just remember who this is serving. It's not us, it's for their pocketbook..

    Great post!
    It's so true.

There was a commercial earlier this year or last for deli meat that showed a woman in a lab coat in a science looking facility and they entire commercial talked about how she takes great pride in creating healthy food for us all to eat. That commercial really stuck out to me. Every time I saw that commercial I had to change the channel because it irritated me so much. Just because something is marketed as edible and the government tells you it's okay/healthy to eat doesn't mean it's good for you.
