It's a rainy Friday, and I'm not sure if I'll be able to do my daily walk. But hey, it's Oregon - we Oregonians don't let a little thing like rain keep us indoors!
Yesterday, after my first workout at Curves, the Curves lady told me that I might gain a couple of pounds at first, but she said that's to be expected because I'm adding muscle. Hmmm, and this morning I did gain half a pound. YIKES!!! I hate that, even though my mind says it's all right, I stayed within calorie, drank my water, and got my cardio and strenth training in. I love how Spark has changed my attitude about so many things. This time last year, I rarely left the house unless it was to walk my grandson to the park two blocks away - and by the time we got to the park, my back would be hurting so much, I'd have to sit down immediately. Now I walk all over town, on 2-mile walks every day, and I look forward to meeting people and look them in the eye with confidence, rather than looking away self-consciously.
The only thing that bothers me is that the Curves lady hadn't heard of Spark People! You can bet I told her all about it, and how I had lost 57 pounds. She asked me how long it took to lose it, and when I told her almost a year, she said that was the perfect way to do it. She asked me what my goal was in joining Curves, and I explained that I wanted to get down to a healthy weight, which means to lose another 40 pounds. (My BMI indicates that I need to lose another 20 pounds to get out of obesity and be "just overweight," and that I need to lose 20 pounds after that for a healthy weight. She was impressed that I realized it would take another year to accomplish that. What she didn't know was that I never would have had the confidence to join Curves if it hadn't been for SparkPeople. Thank you so much, SparkPeople! And Mr. Downey, you deserve some kind of humanitarian award for the help you've given so many people.
