Another AHA Moment - Aplogizing for weight loss!

Thursday, October 22, 2009

The weather in Michigan is starting to turn cold so I decided to join a 24 hour gym.

I walked in today and talked to the staff. She asked are you familiar with exercise? Have you done any strength training? My comment - sure some. As we continued talking I explained that I am committed to a lifestyle change and using SparkPeople to lose weight.

She had never heard of it so I said "Well, it is great. I have used it to lose over 60 pounds. I know it is not much but I am trying". As the words came out of my mouth I am thinking "Hey Girl, take credit and be proud - stop thinking about how far you have to go but how far you have come. Wow, I know I should not beat myself up but that was definitely a DUMB moment.

I need to keep the joy of success to keep my momentum. Sure I have a long way to go but I am still going and that is success.

60 lbs is amazing! You're right--don't apologize. Pat yourself on the back, then show people what ELSE you can do.

You are awesome! 60 lbs is great! And I'm excited for you that you have joined the gym. I would like to but right now it's out of the budget, maybe in January when I've gotten a few bills paid off.

    Have a great weekend!

I COMPLETELY understand where you're coming from! Sometimes I still get self conscious thinking that whomever I'm talking to is thinking "really, you've lost that much weight and you're STILL fat?" So I always downplay it and say something like "well I've lost a bunch, but I still have so much more to lose so whatever..." Then there are times where I'm really good and actually take pride in how much I've lost. Those are the times I'm most proud of myself! :)
