A Rainy Day in Oregon

Wednesday, October 21, 2009

Imagine that, raining in Oregon! Haha, after living in Oregon for 19 years, I've grown to like the rain, and it really doesn't rain as often as people think. You hear it rains every day, but even when it does, it doesn't rain ALL day, so you can still get out. But it looks like it's going to be raining on and off all day today, so I can't go for my walk, darn it--I'm really getting addicted to walking.

Last night on Biggest Loser, Danny gained a pound after being home for a week, and he was so surprised and bummed. It shows how much harder it is to lose when you're not on the show and don't have the trainers yelling at you. And this morning, I had gained half a pound. And I don't know why either. I can't seem to lose more than the 57 pounds. My goal when I started Spark was to be down to 174 by the end of October, and I weigh 182 today, so it doesn't look like I'm going to make it. Oh well, I'm not going to beat myself up about it, I've done so much better than I ever thought I would do. So I'm not going back to the old lifestyle. According to the BMI scale, I'm still obese. I need to lose 20 pounds to be "just overweight." And another 20 pounds after that to be healthy.

I'm thinking about joining Curves. A few days ago, there was an offer to join that came up in my Sparkmail. Now I can't find it. I think it might be helpful to go to Curves 3-4 times a week and do my walks followed by Strength Training on the other days.

My husband is from Spokane, WA not far from the Oregon border, so he filled me in on the rain. We were in Oregon on a rainy day in August. I guess when we are up there in WA for 3-4 months next year in the summer I'll learn more about the rain.

Today is another rainy day in Arkansas. Where I live is 17 inches ahead for the year..

I love the rain. Have lived in Oregon since 1947 (and, as my mother-in-law always said) now, how does that make me??? Mostly I lived in Medford - such a beautiful valley. A couple of years in Eugene and about 10 in Portland.
Have been in Pendleton for 3 years (since my retirement).
Love the rain - but not the snow - which we really had last winter.
Thank God for a Youth Pastor at our church who chauffered me
(I am the Office Manager here the the First Church of God.)

I am new to Spark - and drinking more water is my first goal.
I am not a water-drinker so this will be a real challenge.
So, am looking for lots of encouragement -

    Thanks for much!!!

Good old Oregon, I lived there for three years and had to leave because of the weather. Your right it does not rain all the time. The thing is if it is not raining it looks as though it is. The sun is hardly ever visible that is what I could not get use to, wish I could of because Oregon is so BEAUTIFUL! I miss all that green. Walking in the rain is always a way to go.

I could not handle the rain, but I'm a born and bred SoCal girl. If you decide not to try curves, maybe invest in a few workout DVDs to add variety and kickstart the next phase of your weight loss.

Funny lady! We're probably not going to see any sunshine until next June.
I actually am getting used to the rain but my poor Tuffy refuses to go out in it. He jsut holds his pee in until the rain stops.
    Have a good week.
