So many oils...which is the healthiest? Which do YOU prefer?

Goodness...Vegetable? Canola? Peanut? Soy? Olive? Flax Seed? Safflower? Sunflower? Corn? Palm? Coconut? And these are just the ones I could think of!

Listen, I would love to receive feedback on this topic. I have recently switched from vegetable oil to peanut oil because it has less calories, and it tastes "cleaner" if that makes any sense. Peanut oil doesn't 'smoke' as quickly, and the roasted veggies are so crispilicious. lol

So, which oil do YOU prefer, and why? Which one is the healthiest?

    Canola and Peanut oils are the best to cook with, as they won't burn as fast. There are valid arguments suggesting that Canola is the best. Myself, I am quite fond of Peanut and Olive oils. I LOVE your blogs, by the way. (And I joined your new team, too. I'm happy to help in any possible)

    I am a big fan of olive oil. And if I want to add some fat to a salad, a great avocado can't be beat. It's filled with mono saturated fat.

    I don't know if it's any healthier than the others but when I use oil I use olive oil. Mostly because we really like the flavor.

    I use olive oil if I am cooking something that needs it, which is not often. I use vegetable oil if I am baking (again not often) or need more than 1/4 of oil. I have bought canola oil in the past and it was pretty good, but like everyone else I don't use a lot. Even when i roast vegetables, I coat the pan and spray a little over the top. I would love to read other's comments to your blog.

    I really don't use many oils when I am cooking. When I do use oil I use olive oil, or manybe peanut oil. But I really only use peanut oil one or twice a year.

    The key with oils is to match the oil with what you are trying to cook.

    Wow, you are so right! There are so many different oils out there and so much information about each one. I guess it all depends on what you use it for and what health concerns you may or may not have. I don't use cooking oils a lot but when I do I use canola oil because I like the taste, and it seems to always be in the top 3 whenever they talk about healthy oils. I use olive oil when I grill foods mainly because I love the way it tastes and smells. Hmmm, you have posed a very good question SAX_88!

    There are just tooooo many studies & reports with a variety of good information. Personally I choose Plain ole Vegetable Oil. Why! Vegetable oil of all the oils is the only one that has a long shelf life. Other oils, olive, coconut, canola and peanut all go rancid and should be refrigerated. Rancid oil can cause all kinds of problems with your digestive and immune system. If you are using it faster than rancid begins, then it doesn't matter what you use because it's more than you should be consuming of any oil.
    I consume very little oil in my diet. Veggie Oil for very light frying in a pan on avg once maybe twice a MONTH. I use vinaigrette on salads. When baking I use applesauce or pumpkin in place of oil in most recipes (bread, muffins, cake etc) (non pastry). Applesauce is a great substitute.

    I guess my answer doesn't really answer your question since I just don't consume enough to make a difference.
