Facing everyday challenges

Saturday, October 17, 2009

Spent time in meditation filling myself spiritually. I got myself outside to walk at 6:45. Maybe I should say "my friends" strongly encouraged me to go out and walk especially since I missed yesterday. Missing one day may not seem like much but for me it usually starts the decline of a well intentioned plan. I painted on the nativity sets yesterday and needed to be back here at the KC Hall by 3:45. Some of our ladies are missing due to surgeries etc. I had to work in the food line. A challenge indeed. Everything is fried and tastes so good. While the choices aren't the best my challenge is to eat appropriately. My supper consisted of 1 drumstick, 8 potato wedges, and about 1/2 cup of slaw. The places we go aren't going to change but the way I handle a situation has too in order for me to take care of myself. I found that this amount of food was truly enough. It would not have been in the past. A carry out contains FIVE pieces of chicken or fish (your choice) plus all the other fixins'. Living in the moment that is my plan. Assessing the situation and making the best possible choice.

This morning I was awakened at 6:00 with the desire to get back to that morning walk. The morning walk was invigorating and I kept a pretty brisk pace. Temperatures are dropping here in the midwest but I find it a time to be with God and share my downfalls.

Everyday I will face challenges especially in my menu choices. We eat out every Saturday before visiting with our grandchildren. Today that is my challenge to eat responsibly off of the buffet. I don't want to shut down my life feeling I can't do this or that. Learning to deal with the situation at hand asking for the help from my friends, The Father, Son and Holy Spirit I can do it. Praying over my food helps. When in public I say a silent prayer asking God to replenish my body with food knowing it is for my physical benefit and not making it the center of my universe. Jesus did great things in the Bible when he prayed over food. He multiplied the loaves and fishes to feed the multitudes who came to hear him and he fed them spiritually before he fed them physically.

I got a nice sense of your peace as I read about your challenges. Lead us not into temptation! Sometimes the trials are difficult. And my weak spirit does cave in, if left to it's own devices. You are doing job one. Keeping good company and gaining strength from their presence. Thanks for your sharing today. It really gave me a nice sense of peace. Have a great Saturday, Marie!
