In Limbo

My wife and I joined SP on 7/27/09, and initially we seemed to lose weight fairly easily. I started at 251 and gradually came down to 238.6 lbs, but i just can't seem to get below that number.

I do cardio for up to 75 minutes, and ride as much as 13 miles three times a week, I do strength training for a much as 90 minutes, with 8 separate exercises three times a week.

I'm baffled! The only thing that comes to mind is that possibly some of the medication I take for Type II Diabetes is either causing me to retain water or is causing me to maintain my weight. I also take a blood pressure medication, but I believe it has a diuretic in it to take care of the excess water.

I am confused, but not defeated. I am still going forward and I seem to be slimming down in size if not weight.

Wish me luck!!

Norm, the exercise and food tracking seem pretty solid, have you considered switching up to a different form of cardio just to shake things up a bit?

Also, how is the food tracking going? Are you within the ranges for the things you are monitoring?

Lastly, yep, call me fiber man, but how are you doing with fiber intake? This is one that I strongly preach because fiber has great impact on type II diabetics....and in weight loss. 25-35 grams per day will have a very positive long-term effect (whole grains, legumes, apples, oranges, Fiber One products, etc....) Trust me on this one....(but if you are way below this intake amount, start to build slowly....)

Like my blog said there's a lesson in there somewhere... the key is finding the right formula for you! Have you talked to a doctor. If you are logging your foods and activity, you could discuss and see what they come up with.

Congratulations on losing what you have done so far! Plateaus are frustrating but it will pass! Keep up the great attitude!

I've been stuck a few times myself, and it's hard when you know you're doing everything right! There's a spark saying that says, TRUST THE PROCESS, I think that's saying JUST BE PATIENT :)
But I know that's not easy to do sometimes!

I've read where changing things up helps and it has worked for me-sometimes we get stuck eating the same foods and doing the same workouts and we just need to surprise our bodies with some new stuff!

And like you've found, it is good to measure-right now my tape measure is lots friendlier than the scale!

Just hang in there-and continue trusting the process ;)

You don't say how long you've been on the plateau, and that may be what this is. You sound like you're doing all the right things. Keep it up! Sometimes the body just needs to readjust to the new wt. before it lets go of any more.

Norm, I was on some medication (just now off of it) and I'm losing. I did a google search on my previous medication and it had indicated that a person "had a tendency to gain weight" while on this medication! I'd check it out. You know the other factors, water, sleep, stress, good mix of carbs, proteins, fat, etc.

    Congrats on your hard work!
