Prompt For Sep 6 - Sep 12
Now that summer is coming to an end, are there any changes you'll be making to your diet and exercise routine?

Yes, now that the days are getting shorter and colder, I can see my morning walks becoming shorter too. So instead of burning 500 calories in the morning I will be lucky to burn 300 now.

As part of my lifestyle changes, this means that I must either increase my calorie burn later in the day or reduce my calorie intake by at least 200 calories daily.

Since this is my first winter in Weight Maintenance I am not sure what will happen but I do know that I will be ever vigilant in watching my numbers.

**edit: For the Sparkers living 'down under', when the seasons change, I try to adapt. I will be walking more in the afternoons and when really too cold outside I will do the treadmill again. I check my calories in vs. calories out on a daily basis so I should be able to maintain without stressing.

I do much less gardening and more indoor exercise. It will probably be like this until Spring. I tend to crave stodge more in cold weather, so I will have to watch myself.

Yep, I'll be wearing a jacket, shoes and sock to go my walks on the beach...no more shorts and barefoot!!

Also switch to winter 'comfort foods' adapted of course, lower in fat...

I will be doing more inside. Treadmill, classes, ect. it gets to cold in Chicago to do much outside. Good Luck with your maintenance!

I dread the seasonal changes coming. The time change will be a buggar for me. Right now I try to get up and walk/run at 5:30 am. It'll be harder when we "fall back" an hour. Ugh!

Linda, I'm sure with a little trial and error you'll find your happy medium. Just allow yourself time to adjust.

    Have a GREAT Monday!

I'm not sure what changes I'l make. I have been walking in the afternoon but as it gets darker earlier that might have to go.

As it gets cooler and stays darker longer, I use the treadmill more. I also will do some mall walking. I prefer outdoor running and walking, and do that when I can, but I do appreciate my trusty treadmill when I need it. I'll also be putting up the bike:( I'll miss that.

I will be doing some deep cleaning in my house to substitute for my gardening. Until January, I should stay pretty busy.

Hi Linda, I like you will see a change in my activity but mine will include more outdoors. I love the cool weather and don't mind most winter days. I't's only on the windy days that I don't go outside. A good pair of winter hiking boots make the Artic terrain walkable and boy do you ever use some different muscles to walk on the ice. LOL Keep going my firend . yYou have come so far.

I'm sure you will do fine. Can you switch your morning walks to lunch walks?
You can also march in front of your TV during each commercial break -although I know it is not like your usual workouts.

Best of luck with your winter weight maintenance. I bet you'll find other alternatives to keep up the good work.

Ofcourse some of us are coming into summer - swimming, beaches, lighter foods etc - but I doubt I will make any exercise changes because of season change.
