23 days into my insulin resistant diet

Saturday, October 10, 2009

Im 23 days into this diet and I have lost 14lbs!! and I have gone down a size. My energy levels are great which Im so surprised at especially when Im working out. I saw my dietician yesterday and she informed me that I was right on track and that I will be on this diet throughout the holidays. I have to admit when she told me that my first thought was OH NO!! how am I going to stick to this diet throughout the holidays. Its getting harder already with Halloween coming up there is candy everywhere at my workplace and at home its been a struggle but so far I have managed to stay away from it.

I know its going to get harder as the days go by but I am so determined to not let the holidays interfere with what I am doing and the success I already have. I have learned that what you set your mind to you are going to do so I have set my mind to staying on track keep up with my workouts and staying strong. This will truly be a test of my will and my determination and I know I can do this. Its simply saying to myself this is not only about weight loss this is about my health and not getting diabetes.

Obesity and diabetes runs in my family and I have seen what diabetes can do to the body and it scares me I dont want to go down that road like my relatives did. So with all this in mind I am ready to tackle the holidays with all the treats pies, and cakes I am so ready because I am worth it.

Oh, me too!! It's a choice to stay on track for the holidays. I have made mine to be able to splurge a little on the actual holiday but not the day (days, weeks, etc) before and after. That means Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day are IT!! That should NOT totally derail me by the new year!! I was like you in thinking it through though, the first reaction to changing something you've traditionally done (and liked) was "Oh no, I couldn't do that"~out of fear of feeling deprived and failing. Only, I realized that if I do what I have always done, I will only be deprived of feeling and looking like I do today versus the past!! We can so do this!! I may need to be accountable through that time...can I drop by and unload????LOL!
It is horrible what diabetes can do to a body! My aunt is severe and is on dialysis with all kinds of other complications resulting...my hubby's uncle lost a leg and eventually his life!!! It should scare anybody~I know it does me!!
What's funny is that I went to a dietitian long after I was diagnosed PCOS/Insulin Resistant and she didn't treat me any differently than any other person in need of weight loss. Could you clue me in?? CONGRATS on your success with your new plan. That is awesome!!!

Carol, you will do just fine because you are so motivated and you have many, many, many emoticon who are here to keep you accountable and on track!! A suggestion regarding the candy, buy yourself some sugar free hard candies and when you see all that other candy around the office, just pop one of yours. DH and I eat sugar free Worther's Originals; they are quite tasty.

I am worried too about the upcoming holidays as DH and I are travelling for Thanksgiving and I know there will be a lot of cooking going on at the homes we will visit... We all have to stay strong willed during thes next few months....

    Keeping thinking Bikini!!!

Congratulations with your success. I am also insulin resistant, I wanted to share with you a book I found very interesting to read, it basically describes our life...It's called the metobolic miracle. It totally changed my life, my sugar level went from upper 190-250, down to 80-110, I lost weight and have energy like never before. Good luck with your diet. Hope all works for you!

I've been struggling, but it's working. Probably a switch in the diet would help too! Can you give me a copy of your normal diet?
