#95: Longing For Peace of Mind

Friday, October 02, 2009

Doesn't life nowadays frequently seem overwhelmingly hectic and tense?

How often do we wish for the serenity of a mountain morning, birds singing, fog hanging over the valley?

How many times do we wish for the quietude of a beach, warm sand between our toes, as we marvel at the power of the ocean's vastness?

Unfortunately, many of us do not have the luxury of being able to visit mountains or beaches, valley glades or awe-inspiring waterfalls, quiet forests or nature parks or to live close to the majestic colors of a New England countryside.

So, how can we then calm ourselves from the frenetic tempo of our lives?

How about simply sitting and watching the beauty of a sunrise or the grandeur of a sunset?

Or focusing our minds on the greater wonders of the world, letting go of our tension and stress by watching the flight of a multi-hued butterfly, or the gaiety of children on a playground?

Life is busy. Life is hectic.

Don't we deserve to have peace of mind?

What will you do today to achieve it?

A couple years ago I was fortunate enough to go on a cruise to Alaska. Early each morning we would sail into a new port. It was just what you said. Fog hanging on the mountains and little coastal villages just waking up. When I need to destress, I look at my pictures and let myself go back to those wonderful peaceful mornings.

When I feel stressed out I like to close my eyes and imagine I am floating on a cloud high above all my problems. One day a week I like to create quitness by turning off the phone, tv and computer. Get in touch with my inner self. Spend some time alone with God. Hear myself think. Also taking a walk out among nature is refreshing.

If you can't look at the beautiful blue ocean then gaze into the beautiful blue sky. I do and I find that relaxing. I like to watch the clouds and pick out shapes. I find music very relaxing. I love to hear wind chimes and birds sing. You are so right , we need to slow down and smell the roses. Holly

I live in a city where much of nature is covered in concrete, but it doesnt stop me from taking a moment to pause. Each day when I read my devotional and write in my journal, that is my time out to sort out what's going on inside and talk to God. I look forward to it, and thank God that I can take the time to do that.
This reminds me of that song - There is a quiet place, far from the rapid pace, where God can soothe my troubled mind...

My peace of mind comes when I sit by our water garden, with a cup of coffee, watching the sun come up, while listening to the music that the fountain causes the dancing water to make.

Hi, I like to sit quietly and meditate. I love nature and looking at nature, feeding the birds, looking at the trees and the plants and flowers. I love peace and quiet. I hate the hectic life that I see sometimes. Well, have a nice day, HUGS wendy emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
