September Challenge Update
Wednesday, September 30, 2009
Today is the last day of September and the last day for reporting my weight for the "Lose 5 Pounds in September" challenge. My starting weight when the challenge began was 183 pounds. My weight today is 178! I did it! This is the first time I have been able to lose 5 pounds in one month since approximately August 2008 when I still weighed over 200 pounds so I am very encouraged. I am not sure how effective the "No Flour/No Sugar" approach was for me, and I will have to decide whether to incorporate it into my program or continue with my "portion control" methods that worked well for me, but at a slower rate, 2 pounds per month. It will probably be a hybrid of both.
The first 3 pounds dropped in the first week of the challenge were "willin' villains". The last 2 pounds dropped 1 pound at a time in the third and fourth weeks of this short month, were "grudgin' curmudgeons". They tried their best to hang on but after I increased my level of activity and my water intake, they had nowhere to go but out of my system. One thing I do know for sure is that I will continue to focus on getting fit, using all the tools at my disposal. Thanks to all of my Spark Buddies who keep offering their encouragement. I will continue this goal for the month of October and I am also joining another challenge started by Sparkpeople called "Mindful Eating".
Congratulations to everyone who achieved their goals and congratulations to those who tried their best and never gave up. Remember, we're in this not for the month but for the long haul.
