2500 Spark Points - A Milestone

I responded with some words of encouragement to someone else's blog, and voila! there it was, a new trophy. I had earned 2500 Spark points to date. I wanted to pull my diamond shaped trophy from its perch on my computer and hold it up in the air. I had earned it. It was mine; and for me it was a milestone.

I have been a Spark member on paper since November 2007 but only became active in July 2009. At first I did not pay attention to the points and then suddenly, at some unidentifiable time, they became important. Spark points do not represent a tangible benefit like money or prizes; instead they represent commitment to a plan which has as its goal, healthy weight loss for all of its members. Logging points on Spark People tells us that we are focusing on weight loss and good health and hopefully are making progress.

When I log in to the SparkPeople website, the first thing I do is get my log in points. Whether it is 1 or 25 I am grateful. My day has begun with a spark. Next I plan or edit my menu for the day. I get another 5 points for doing so. Planning my meals in advance helps me to avoid temptation and keep on track with my eating. My next stop is the trivia. It is my favorite activity on Spark. Sometimes I get my 3 correct answers immediately, at other times I have to try a little harder, but always I learn something new from the experience and it earns me another 3 points. Reading the Insider teaches me or reinforces a new aspect of using Spark People, and taking a Spark poll is a reminder that in the Spark community, our opinion counts. I am committed to logging in my fitness minutes which means I must work out and I have found that when I am unable to work out I feel the void in my day. I also enjoy reading or writing blogs, communicating with my Spark friends and Spark teams and exploring Sparkpages. All these activities are rewarded with points which is a tally of how far we have come on our journey.

And so as I bask in the joy of achieving my 2500 Spark point milestone, I recognize that I have made a commitment and have stuck to it this far. It is time well spent by me as I continue to retrain my body to embrace good health. This is indeed a milestone on a revolutionary journey that I have undertaken, and I am happy to be involved in it.
