The holiday debacle part II

Thursday, September 24, 2009

After the nightmare of failing to book a few days in the Black Forest, the boy suggested Easyjet (which I did not realise has CHEAP holidays...DOH! Dumb blonde syndrome)...anyway....so I looked quickly and ooooooooh, HELLO Majorca!! It was warm but not too much, the dates fitted and best of all it was WITHIN BUDGET!!

So we spent literally 3 HOURS checking out the various hotels, reading reviews to make sure we NOT going to end up in a party-hotel, etc and then we decided on one (4*, quiet, 3 swimming pools...) and went on to book.

Attempt 1: "an error has occured, please try again"

Attempt 2: "the price of your trip has changed"......................
..........................
.............+£130... EACH!

So suddenly the travelling would be about 3 times the price of the room and half-board. BF's face turned a white shade of pale.

It was midnight.

I turned the computer off. I turned to BF and explained that since some of my SP friends were in danger of losing their homes, although it totally sucked that we can't afford this holiday right now, I'd rather book early for next year and get a cheap flight. And that he could un-book his days off for this year and that we'd go out for the day that weekend. Maybe even to the black forest (no gateau involved).

But seriously, this holiday thing: WE ARE DOOMED ;-)

I'm thinking maybe we need to rethink "Holiday" ...what about a tiny little local holiday. This might sound a bit silly, but when I was a young girl, it was only my Mom and I and there were plenty of times we couldn't afford a normal holiday, so my Mom would find little places to go and we would make a weekend trip of it and it didn't matter where we were, because we always had a great time and those are some of my favorite memories we shared.

Things everywhere are so topsy turvy as of late. I'm still looking for a job that could save us from losing our home... but no bites yet and I know we are not alone and there are many who are facing the same thing. Just remember to smile and time spent with another is the most important of time.

I'm so sorry that it didn't work out again. However, your idea to book now for a holiday in the new year maybe just what you need. You seem to be incredibly stressed about booking this holiday and trying to travel right now. Just having something booked may help you relax in itself, knowing it is done. But getting out for the day is a great strategy too. I suggest leaving the cell phones either off or at home while out for the day will help too. Don't let anything distract you during your relaxing time together. . . . Most importantly, have fun!!!!

Oh no! There is a part two!!!!!
So sorry to hear that. So sorry and I so feel for you and also for the people who are loosing their homes. But you are so right because sometimes less is really more and a weekend or day away is much more than this expensive not so thrilling holiday at a dream destinations which turns out to be a nightmare.

Hope you get your share of pretty and relaxing moments this year too. Take care.
