Way I'm Being Good to Me #6: GOING OUTSIDE
Wednesday, September 23, 2009
For as long as I can remember, I LOVE to be outside. As a child, I was outside more often than I was inside on the weekends. I had a friend I was really close to who did NOT like to be outside, and I used to sometimes turn down a play date just so I could be out there. I had a good imagination and a field of pine trees on the edge of my parents' property growing up, so I used to entertain myself for hours out there! I'd come in refreshed, tired, and happy.
My love for being outdoors has definitely followed me as I've gotten older, though in the past decade I've spent less and less time out there. As life has gotten busier--and more high tech--I've traded those hours of romping or being active outside for time spent in front of the computer (working). So the next thing I have planned to help me be good to me is to spend much more time outdoors--EVEN if it's raining, EVEN if it's snowing, EVEN if it's cold, and EVEN if I have 98209384290348 other things to do. It's truly where I am at my absolute happiest and my absolute best. Since we moved in December, I have a ton of property to explore, a few porches to enjoy being on, and hiking trails all over the place within miles of my house. There's really no excuse for me not to be out there and enjoying it more (whether for exercise or not)--I'm certain I could find a few minutes every day. So... that's what I'm going to do!
BTW, even just a few days of trying to focus on the positive, and I notice a big difference. I hope I can keep it up!
My best to all.
