Way I'm Being Good to Me #6: GOING OUTSIDE

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

For as long as I can remember, I LOVE to be outside. As a child, I was outside more often than I was inside on the weekends. I had a friend I was really close to who did NOT like to be outside, and I used to sometimes turn down a play date just so I could be out there. I had a good imagination and a field of pine trees on the edge of my parents' property growing up, so I used to entertain myself for hours out there! I'd come in refreshed, tired, and happy.

My love for being outdoors has definitely followed me as I've gotten older, though in the past decade I've spent less and less time out there. As life has gotten busier--and more high tech--I've traded those hours of romping or being active outside for time spent in front of the computer (working). So the next thing I have planned to help me be good to me is to spend much more time outdoors--EVEN if it's raining, EVEN if it's snowing, EVEN if it's cold, and EVEN if I have 98209384290348 other things to do. It's truly where I am at my absolute happiest and my absolute best. Since we moved in December, I have a ton of property to explore, a few porches to enjoy being on, and hiking trails all over the place within miles of my house. There's really no excuse for me not to be out there and enjoying it more (whether for exercise or not)--I'm certain I could find a few minutes every day. So... that's what I'm going to do!

BTW, even just a few days of trying to focus on the positive, and I notice a big difference. I hope I can keep it up!

My best to all.

You can do it. I love being outdoors too! I also spend a lot of time on the computer and I would like to cut that time back to do more outside and be with my dogs. I have a big yard to work in and love playing in the dirt (planting/gardening). I am already thinking of changing my front flower bed next spring. I need to start working on it now so it will be ready. I need to rip out some old shrubs and cut back another.

Where do you live I want to come visit. lol I am a country girl at heart and have been stuck in the city for the past 35 years. I do get out to the country at least a weekend once a month. We have a friend who has 140 acres. I love to go out there and walk with her dog. I haven't taken Katie out there yet. Next time we get a chance though Katie and Ranger will get to meet. Go enjoy those trails and the outside if not but only 10 or 15 minutes a day. It will help keep that positive attitude.
