Yes, I'm on a diet - well sorta!!!

Wednesday, September 23, 2009

At my job, weight has joined politics and religion as taboo subjects. People are afraid to offend others by commenting on their weight loss or gain. This might be due to a few situations when weight loss was the result of illness and the compliment was not well taken. And so although my weight loss has begun to show, the comments are few and subtle at best. However, yesterday, as I searched for a flawless nectarine (don't eat bruised fruit) in the cafeteria, someone commented that I looked great and asked whether I was on a diet. Well, yes, sorta, I'm on Spark, was my reply. Of course that led to my explanation of what Spark was about. As I returned to my desk, I recalled reading an article where the word DIET was used as an acronym. I tried to remember how it was written and couldn't, so I decided to make up my own. Thought I'd share it with you.

D - Determination to stay the course and recognize that this is a lifestyle change.
I - Inspiration that comes from having faith in a higher power, for me that's God.
E - Encouragement that comes daily from my Spark family.
T - Truthfulness to oneself, recognizing that being truthful is the way to win.

So am I on a diet? I think so. Depends on who is defining it. Have a wonderfully blessed day.

Very positive way to reinforce our commitments to becoming healthier. I'm printing and posting on my refrigerator. I'm probably messing up because I haven't been "truthful" with the calories I've been eating. Trying to be more meticulous about that. Thanks

OK, I can live with the acronym D.I.E.T., but still view the word diet as a four letter word. emoticon

Good for you for taking a four letter word and making it something we can live with!
