I haven't blogged in the last couple of days because my arms have ached!
Friday was a big day around the old homestead. My son, who is 4 has outgrown his toddler bed and was ready for a regular bed. I wanted a quality piece of furniture that would last him through his teens, attractive and not require a second mortgage on the house to buy. So naturally I turned to Craigslist and found a GREAT deal on a super cool bunk bed, desk, chest of drawers thingy
This puppy retails for about $1200, and I paid $400 including 2 mattresses with the tags still on! Woo hoo! It weighs about two tons and was a b!tch to set up, but it's done now and my little guy is just thrilled with his little world.
Saturday, I pretty much earned my karmic get out of jail free card for the rest of all time! The SO's parents live on a beautiful 1.5 acre spread at the foot of the Blue Mountains. Over the years they've turned it into a landscaping paradise. It is absolutely lovely. Pops, as I call him, is desperately ill with a failing liver and is no longer able to manage the work required to maintain it so we drove up and spent HOURS weeding, cleaning out a shed, mowing, raking, powerwashing the deck and weed-whacking.
Being the only sensible (or sucker, the jury's still out) one to wear jeans, I was delegated the task of weed whacking. Now, I've never done this particular task before and I'm going to make it my life's work to never do it again if at all possible. How on earth people do this for a living EVERY day is beyond me!
I also was the only one who brought along flip flops, so I did the power washing. It's deceptive, while you're spraying a surface with water a high pressure you don't realize just how much strength it takes. By the time I was done with this and the weed whacking, my hands and arms were shaking so badly I literally couldn't hold a cup of water to drink it...I just set it on a table and used a straw, no worries, I was getting my water!
Needless to say I took today to recover. I went to the gym but only to use the steam room and hot tub. I'm not sure how I would have made it through grocery shopping without them. The miracles of hot water and ibuprofen cannot be appreciated more this day.
