Thank You Fashion Bug!

Saturday, September 19, 2009

So after my Weigh-in on Friday, I decided it was time to go try on some clothes and get some new undies. For those of you who don't know, Fashion Bug is owned by the same group as Lane Bryant (Love Love Love!) and Catherine's (Not so much...). When I walked in I immediately went left and caught myself. I was supposed to go right since I am still technically a plus-size girl. I looked through the casual clothes and then the active wear. I was impressed by the selection. Then it crossed my mind... where are the business clothes? I then peeked around on the other side to find business and lingerie. Something told me to check it out, but in the back of my mind I knew this was the small chick side. Lo and Behold I discovered they had integrated the clothes! There was no more plus-size and petite(?) sides to the store. It was just one big clothing store! I was so happy this had happened. You have no idea how many years I have felt awkward about not really being allowed on one side of the store, and seeing cute clothes on display that were not available to me.

So I went to try on my clothes, and commented on how wonderful it is to have one big store now. I was told that they had received mixed reviews, and I was stuck pondering who would not like this? [an ungrateful skinny chick!] It's awesome! Everything is still a work in progress, but within the next few weeks Fashion Bug will offer EVERY [site says different than the sales person :( ]design from size 6-32!!!!!! They have also decided that a material surcharge is simply unnecessary! :)

At that point, I really felt like crying. Tears of joy. I saw Drop Dead Diva on Sunday night, and I don't know if that episode had anything to do with this change or if there really was a lawsuit filed somewhere, but I love that at least one franchise has decided that it should be the shopper's choice to decide if they look good in something, and not the designers.
I also love that I was able to pick up an XL and a 18/20 jacket off the same rack! :) I'm still a little snug for the XL, but I got it on layaway :)

So if there is a Fashion Bug near you that has not converted, please encourage and support their decision to do so. More stores should do this.

I know you posted this a while ago, but I just came across it. Our Fashion Bug has been converting for a while. I haven't been there in a while, but I was completely thrilled they were doing this. Hurray!!! Even though I felt like their plus size section had some good choices they did have a lot of old lady lookin stuff. Just because I'm fat doesn't mean I want to wear a big baggy t-shirt with sequin all over it or butterflies and birds. =) After reading this now I think I'm going to take a trip there.

I am lovin' this! I had heard it through the grapevine, and then I read your blog. Yesterday, in the mail, an ad came for Fashion Bug, and they BOLDLY bragged about how they are the first in the industry to make the clothing every size, AND that larger folks would not pay extra for their clothes. Very exciting. About time everyone was treated the same.
